Has Anybody Mounted Drag Radials on Their Car?

Has anyone done this yet? I'm curious as to how much abuse the tranny, clutch, and axles can take. Only a sticky tire will let the driveline's weak link show. I'm not even sure there is even a drag radial to fit my friend's Cobalt. I guess we'll have to get a pair of Ion Red Line Rims to mount the DRs. With a drag radial these cars should see low 14 sec runs. Drag radials are the ****! I dropped .3 with a set of Mickey Thompson Drag Radials on my Camaro. Also I was reading about the weird bolt pattern that these cars have. So right now there isn't a real choice of rims. I wonder how a custom set of Bogarts would be ? Probably too much for just mild track duty. There has to be a company out there that can custom make a steel rim with the spacing and bolt pattern needed for these cars. I know there is a company that makes rims for roundy round racing, maybe they have a rim or the ability to make custom rims. I'll check it out.

There's a company called Diamond Racing Rims. They do custom steel wheels for all types of racing. They would be able to do make rims for these cars. They don't have prices online so we'd have to call to get a quote. The Cobalt is going to be seeing a lot of track duty and a set of drag radials or even slicks on another set of rims would be ideal. These rims aren't flashy or anything, they look pretty much like the wheels on Nascar Nextel Cup cars. But you can get them chrome plated. The next choice would be Bogarts, but those things aren't that cheap.

Would really only need two tires for the front tires, right?

Yep, it shouldn't be more than $120 for the pair I would imagine. The in stock steel wheels are about 35-50 bucks at other places. It would be a sweet deal for someone looking for a track only or street racing setup. For less than $500 you'd have traction that would be worth at least .2 in the quarter. I'm going to give them a call.

There was a discussion before about gettin a cheap set of rims to mount some slicks on. I think the L300 has the same bolt pattern, please correct me if wrong, then you could just get the steel cheapies, Not too sure about the clearence of the rotors though.

.2 in the 1/4 your crazy... on average ever then off your 60' time is almost .2 off your 1/4 mile time. Since our cars are hard to launch stock average 60' time for us is 2.3-2.4 with drage radials you should get 2.0 or sub 2.0 60' times. We would prob be right around 14 flat with slicks.

Whatever. I said AT LEAST .2 in the quarter. Every driver is different and so is every track. Using drag radials isn't a sure bet either. It takes practice with getting the right amount of heat in the tire and also adjusting the tire pressure for track conditions. Sub 2.0 60ft predictions are very optimistic for a FWD car with only low 200hp. A perfect driver could see a real low 14 sec pass, but the majority of guys out there running mid to high 14s will see low 14 sec passes with a set of drag radials. My Camaro's near stock 60ft was 2.03-2.12. With the converter and Mickey T DRs my new best 60ft is 1.73. My car is a low 12 sec car.

Tire don't make your car go faster, they make it easier for you to launch. If you're talking about a drag strip. So the amount they take off your time, is just like my fellow Camaro owner said, depends on the driver. You could roast a set of mild slicks too, seen guy in muscle cars head to the track with brand new street or drag slicks, and come back with terrible times, stories, and tales of watching Bob burn his new slicks right off the back of the car. People think you can just floor it and drop it, and you still have to drive the car...
