2.4 SS GMPP exhaust on 2.4 IOn3?

i was looking at getting a GMPP performance exhaust, but they dont make anything for Ions... and its the same engine as the 2.4SS cobalt.. so i was wondering if the GMPP exhaust for the 2.4 SS would work on my 2.4 Ion 3??

Yes, but it will be 2" too short at the tip, so you will need to get a 2" section welded in right before the tip

^yea, i was the first to run the GMPP cobalt exhaust on my Redline, I ended up welding the 2" extension on the end of the very last muffler, right before the exhaust tip

I never got any pics, sorry...

...but it works.

The GMPP is probably too large for a naturally aspirated car anyways. You'll probably KILL all your bottom end torque. You'd be better off to look for a used SS/SC exhaust perhaps. It's only 2 1/4" and would likely be an improvement over the stock 2.2 or 2.4 system (which is less than 2" IIRC) especially if you're racing.
Find someone local to you who's pulled the SS/SC exhaust for a larger one.
That'd be my advice

ummm he may or may not already have the same exhaust as the redline depending on his package. if he has the sport appearance package his exhaust will be 2.5" till the rear axle then it goes down to 2.25". the GMPP exhaust is a very good option for many even though it's only 2.25" all the way back it flows better then the stock exhaust. supposedly even with a larger exhaust you don't lose alot of bottom end torque, and it's not enough to feel by the seat of the pants ( and this was said from a person that has a 3" full exhaust) in all reality it would make it a bit easier to launch if you knocked out some low end torque.

though the GMPP one will work you might be better of replacing the mufflers/ resonators and going a 2.5 pipe from the axle back it should be alot cheaper and will do a decent performance/ sound boost

Put a 3" exhaust on your car and tell me you dont lose significant bottom end.
Sorry your buddy is wrong
You're also wrong about the size of the pipe on the 2.4SS
(you might have been measuring the OD outside diameter??)
The SS pipe is not actually 2.5", it's in between 21/4 and 21/2
Pipes are usually ID (inside diameter) but the Cobalt and IONs actually use a "metric" sized pipe that doesnt really accurately convert to standard "by quarter inch" sizes

+1..all of my exhaust experience is pretty much based on bikes, but I know alot of us will run our race pipes and give up our little bitty bit of low end we started with for a gain in mid and high range because that's where it's spent racing.

You'll have to remember that 95% of these cars are driven on the street and -most- people want their low end as well whereas the other 5% will be ok with losing low end for high end power for strip/track use.
