2004 Saturn Ion Chainsaw

Hi. I used to post here a lot, then life and stuff happened so I haven't been able to. But I do have an Ion Redline, and it has some mods. And I finally got rid of the stock muffler...

This is the stock muffler, after its baffles got destroyed when we gutted the cat. Sounded like crap...esp. under load (really buzzy).

Replaced with a Magnaflow...pretty much a custom axle back. I forget the exact muffler. Cold it sounds fart-cany. But once it warms up, I really enjoy it...

Here's an inside run. The rear seats were down, so the muffler sounds a bit louder than usual. But even w/ the seats up, there's a nice balance of s/c and exhaust. Before it was all s/c, really. Cruising, there's not much drone.

Outside, from rear...this was on a wooded road. I swear my car sounds like a chainsaw now No traction in 1st or 2nd (low 20s temp).

Once the stock exhaust was off, I had a look. It was clogged as hell. Really must've been creating a lot of back pressure. The engine's running much better now...revs faster, just feels better. I know the Interceptor's crap for accurate numbers, but it's good for comparison. I'm showing +~10 - 15hp, on avg., in 3rd gear @ 6500. Before it never went above 305 crank hp. Now I usually show 315 - 320, depending on temps. Oh, and with the exhaust now open, I dropped 2 psi (18 now vs. 20), but am making more power.

Didn't think to take a pic before I cleared it, but I also got a 4.9 sec 0 - 60 reading on the Interceptor Take that for what it's worth, but I'm still loving this car.

I thought you fell off the planet, Jon. Sounds good. Looked pretty fast in that last vid.

Cause it is Or, well, quicker than most of what tries to mess with me. So many more people wanna race now that this muffler's on. The car def runs about...mm...33% better. Because it wasn't running horribly before, but the exhaust was def. getting backed up. Runs and sounds a lot better.

And I know, take em worth a grain of salt, but my Interceptor's showing that 4.9 sec, like I said, at it showed a 13.5 @ 106, that same run. That was my best. I usually get in the 5s, and high 13s/low 14s just driving around. That was through some tunnels around here, that were dry and straight. So I did get to do a full stop and good launch. But haven't had a chance to run her at the track since she's able to breathe Need better proof.

These low temps (teens and twenties), when it's actually dry, make this car pull crazy hard in 1st - 3rd, but traction's an issue. Wish I had the LSD tranny cause the torque steer would rip most people's arms outta their sockets. No knock whatsoever even 7k+ rpm. That's on 93. My IAT2s, with the extra h/e, hardly go over 80F haha Or if they do, they fall fast. So there's probably a big speed difference between winter and summer for me.

Guess I'm just catching everyone up haha. I've had Dan's setup on here for almost 18 months now, and *knock on wood* it's been running great. Had some warranty work done (front strut replaced, moonroof fixed, new radio), too. Like a new car!

Mods, since I don't have em listed: 2.6 ZZP, 60# injectors, K&N cai, cobra h/e, Turbo Dan's tune, some other supporting mods. Best dyno was well over a year ago, something like 265whp, 260ish wtq. That was right before the cat went, cause it was clogged. So I need to get dyno'd again, but I'd guess 270 - 275whp. I'm happy with that.

Good to see your still alive man. I REALLY need to get my i/c pump looked at or just get a new one myself and say fuck the dealership. My iat2's linger up high for way too long sometimes. Then maybe finally get the cobra h/e on.

What temps you showing? Do a couple hard runs, then try to catch your IAT2s after a hard pull through 3rd gear. Or just record w/ ur Interceptor. How quick does your car recover? (Make sure you have some throttle on a little, moving the air) What're your temp when cruising?

During summer, before the extra h/e, I was getting scary IAT2s (180F+). That's with the 2.6 pulley. Winter, still high, like 120s or more.

Like I said now, rarely over 90 or 100 in the winter, 130s in summer, no matter how hard I'm running it. The extra h/e makes a noticeable dif., esp a third gear pull if you're modded. Seems like it's a pretty consistent 20 to 30 F degrees cooler than before. I rarely get knock retard now, but did before.

lately with about the same weather you've been getting, they'll get up to around 120* and stay around there unless i give it the slightest bit of throttle to get some more air moving through. But even then they wont be close to the 30-40* difference i used to get.
