The Ecotec Bible

this should be made a sticky. Theres so much good information in here. from what im reading its Very possible for you guys to just throw a LE5 crank in your LSJ block along with your LSJ rods and have a stroker without going through the headaches that I did.

Rod length is an issue. You would have to have matching rods and pistons.

Are you sure even if you use the LSJ rod?

Yeah, either the piston pin height needs shortened up or the rod made shorter.

When they swapped the LSJ rods into the 2.2 they use a special piston to bring it back to original deck height, it has a different pin height.

I didn't know you guys weren't aware of these new publications, I would have posted them earlier but I thought I originally read about them here.

yup I just thought about it your right. in fact with my 2.2 rods the pistons had to me made around them and the crankshaft stroke to work properly. either way the LE5 cranks could be put in the LSJ block but in all honesty if I were to do it again id use a LSJ crank and have castillo work my cranks rod journals to accept longer rods therefor effectively increasing the stroke. I would dish the pistons even more to get the compression where I wanted it ect. id probaby go with a very common rod such as one from a honda so I had a wider selection and I could get them for a good price.

Stroke has to be done via crank. Making the rods longer will only move the piston closer to the chamber and preserve its length of travel.

What about welding up the rod journals and regrinding with a longer stroke?
