Stealership wants $1,200 for stage 2 and install

LOL...

had to call today to check it out.. what a crock... 780 for stage2 kit and 440 in labor to install.. Yeah, OK, i'll get right on that..

They sounded pretty clueless.. although im a newb in the RL world, ive built dozens of cars and not about to get ripped off... They said if i get the kit anywhere else they will not warranty it.. it HAS to come from them and Installed by them.... lame...

So i have finally come to the conclusion that i paid 2g's for a warranty that i will not be likely using... well maybe i guess if the problem is big enough. Im going to piece together a "stage 2" kit and if i need to get warranty work done i'll just have to swap back to stock parts...

Only question i have is.... the computer... Im doing some reading up on the HPTuner so bare with me...

IF i get my own injectors, pulley, belt and HPTuner how do i revert back to stock if i have to take it in? I can do all the mechanical stuff in less than an hour im sure... but im getting a little worried about the computer crap..(hey, im a carb kinda guy)...

SO, can someone fill me in on this? would really appreciate it.

Thanks

JOe

That's some bullshit, it shouldn't have to come from your dealer. You should be able to buy the kit anywhere (for example, www.crateenginedepot.com) and they should be able to install it under warranty as long as it's a GM part, and especially if it has the GM reflash code (which it will).

I'd say call around to a few more dealers, and maybe even call a couple of Chevy dealers, since they may do them on Cobalt SS' around you too...

Let's say I backed in to something and bent my exhaust and broke a tail light (I didn't, but for the sake of explination...) and I decided to go on Ebay for a new tail light assembly and brand new stock exhaust system , because you know the dealer would charge way too much for them... Most dealers wouldn't even think about voiding your warranty on your lighting/electrical system, and your exhaust just because you didn't buy it from them...

i agree... too many people here are buying them where they want, THEN having the dealership install them....

at this point though, i can't stomach paying somebody 400+bucks to install 4 injectors, 1 pulley and a belt..

Any socal guys have the hookup somewhere? in either price or just have a dealership thats cool and know's their stuff?

Unfortunately I'm at the polar opposite of the country so I can't help you on that one, however, I have even heard of people doing the Stage 2 install themselves, and the dealer only charging an hour or so of labor just to do the reflash...

Not sure who it was, but somebody on here was recently quoted that I believe...

So it really is all in where you go I suppose. I had the dealer do mine, and I don't remember paying over right around $200...

GM has a set install time of 2 hours on the Stage 2 kit. Just like changing an alternator that is all they can charge. So your installation should be less then $200.

I paid $1,150 for the the s2 out the door.
It's extortion, you basically pay a lot of extra money to keep your warranty.
GM knows that if they don't get your money from buying their kit and you go aftermarket, they will save a lot of money in the future by denying warranty
repairs. Either way they win.
Capitalism at it's best.

FYI
Saturn of the Valley (Galpin) in North Hills
should be able to install the kit even if you don't get it
from them.

its nice to not have to worry about putting the pully on crooked or breaking anything.

most places around here charge 1,000 for s2 and the install.

I think my dealership told me like $1300 out the door and i thought that was rediculus. I know that it would installed right tho bc the tech that works on my car had a IRL and had stage2 along with some other goodies.
