Hi to everybody! I'm new here and this is my first post. I would like to give a big THANK YOU to everyone for this awesome thread and informations.
I'm planning to turbocharge my car and i really need some help.
Actually, its not an ION i'm talking about, but i think it doesnt matter. The car i'm planing to modify is a opel speedster 2.2, also known as vauxhall VX220.
The car has the 2.2L ecotec engine (L61), named Z22SE here in germany. Its the same as in the cobalt, ion, etc - putting out around 147hp. ( GM Family II engine - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia )
Now here comes the problem: i already have the software for the ecu, which is made for a turbo kit from dbilas. The Kit produces 260hp at the crank.
NOW im looking for a setup that does make roughly 260-280hp at the crank to fit the software. Im not planing to put out more hp, so 280hp is the max for the turbocharger. Important: Boost pressure must be under 0.9 Bar, otherwise engine control light switches on.
Secondly, it should be as cheap as possible. I thought about the saab exhaust manifold, but i dont know if the turbos that fit put out enough hp on the 2.2L ecotec. Searched a lot and found out that the turbo on the B207R engine is a mitsu TD04L-14T. Already up to 0.85 bar. That wouldnt work on the 2.2, you would never reach 270hp. But what other turbo can you use?? The flange is special, as i read. 3 Holes. Are there any bigger turbos to just plug and play and are capable of exactly 270hp on the 2.2?
Its really a price thingie. I have almost everything except exhaust manifold and turbo - plus some piping.
You might give me an advise.
If its not possible, are there any flange adaptors for the saab turbo manifold? for example to switch to T25/T3?
ebay manifold 2
Does nr. 2 fit on the 2.2L? The biggest difference i saw is that it has no external wastegate flange. Would be important when it comes to turbocharger decision.
So, when using one of those two turbo exhaust manifolds from ebay, what would be the perfect turbo for my needs?
-it should be very cheap
-it should fit
-it should have its perfect potential at 250-280hp for the 2.2L ecotec. (dont know the math, sorry...)
i really hope someone can help me, tried to explain it as much as possible.
thank you all for this great forum, keep on tunin'!

Hi.
will your goals I would recommend the Borg Warner tubro and turbo manifold found on the Ecotec LNF engine. It is a twin scroll manifold and turbo so it has excellent spoolage.
You could probably find a used setup on lsjforums.com.
Also, the Sabb turbo manifold would be enough to handle your power goals. A local guy claims to have made almost 400whp using it and a Garrett 3076r.
Around max. 500$ with shipment... - when capable for max 280hp and durable. can be used.

I'm not sure, wikipedia says it works on 1.4 Bar. As known, i can only reach 0.9 Bar due to ECU, so i think it will not reach the 260HP mark...
Excellent spoolage no doubth, though

and do you know how he managed to put on the turbo? because of the 3 bolt flange.. where can i get an adapter for the T25 flange?
we should meet up, would like to scan your car, and i have a saab turbo manifold for sale cheep if you want it. also i have a turbocharged ecotec @ 2.0bar lol

jim
lol you're crazy, thats about a 6 hour drive just to scan my car?
i think you'll need to rethink that
but whats up with the manifold, whats the price you want to sell it for? good condition?
i might go with the saab manifold because of the good airstream it offers, guessed by the looks. And its cheap. BUT: Im still trying to figure how to Bolt on a T3 or a T25 flange turbo. Any suggestions or help? still aint got that fixed...!!
I'm in America in May, i'm thinking about trying one of that cheap ebay turbos...
Did hear some good things bout them, and of course some bad. At least they dont seem to fall apart when getting them out of the box, not a bad thing.
one like this maybe...
So, how am i going to put that on the saab manifold?? Any adapter plates? Welding? what the fuck do i need to do?!
oh and a little edit: can somebody at least tell me how the flange from saab is named? any reference? i cant find ANYTHING on the internet...
