Twincharging question.... use a blower?

Couldn't you do a twincharging setup with a cetrifigual blower as opposed to a turbo? Wouldn't this be alot easier than a turbo? I know there are some bonuses to the turbo and all, but just thinking cost wise... I mean, you wouldnt need a special header or any of that crap that's special to a turbo... You would just need a way to hook it to the belt drive...

Bored and curious...

If you see Sp00ner driving around and he has a hood with an Eclipse hump you know what he's packin'.

Sounds like a cool idea, but just a space issue. If there was a kit that mounted the charger at the front of the engine you might be able to use that space where the intake goes on the QC. I haven't seen a kit like that though.

It was just a thought... I was reading, *uh-oh* and was just noticing how some of these cetri. blowers act so much like a turbo. So the wheels start turning... If you can find the spot to back a turbo under there, you can pack a blower. I see what you guys are saying though, the engine sits sideways, and where you'd need to hook up the blower, there isn't much room... While the turbo has some room where it could go. I'm not sure how much psi they all put out. I know and old friend that runs 18psi on his Camaro with a Vortech, that's about all I know too...

By front I mean passenger side. Front of the engine, not front of the car. The kits I have seen mount the charger over the tranny. Not sure how you'd route the shaft from the pulley, but, of course, that's up to R&D people.

A Turbocharger is a centrifugal compressor as are Vortech/Paxton, Powerdyne and Procharger superchargers. The only difference is how the impeller is driven. In the case of the supercharger it’s crank driven and not exhaust driven. In theory the performance results can be about the same for either.

This is a very simple and inexpensive way to crank up the power if you can find someone to make a pulley for you. The solution would be to make a dual pulley off of either the supercharger or idler to drive your additional supercharger. Like other C S/C kits for ECOTEC motors you just reverse mount the blower on the passenger side of the compartment and run a small (preferably cogged) belt to the blower. Run the compressed charge through a front mount intercooler (optional) and back up to the intake side of the blower. Even a really old inefficient C S/C that doesn’t make squat for boost until high in the RPM band would work because all you are looking for is top end boost pressure.

Any ideas on what blowers can run at that speed and generate enough boost to make it worth it? I know you can spin it faster to get more boost, but I dont know what ones a good. I just know a few brand names.

holy crap the parasetic loss would be mind numbing

I'd look to upgrading the SC as a better viable alternative.

I was under the impression that the loss on a centi blower was much less than other types. Since the air actually compresses itself through momentum as opposed to just 'squishing' into the manifold.
