Reduced gas mileage w/K&N CAI

Ever since I installed my K&N CAI I've notieced reduced gas mileage. I'm over the point where I have to tach it out so I can hear that beutiful SC sound, and it still seems like I'm getting worse gas mileage. Anyone else notice this with the K&N CAI?

you must have some type of blockage somewhere or somthing, everyone that i read of said that they could hear it fine and (that i know of) didnt have that much different of gas mileage. the other thing is have you changed your driving habbits, especially if you tach it out all the time.

Plus fuel mixtures change with the seasons so you will see slight changes in gas milage based on a variety of things. Do you have your A/C on all the time cause it's hot out, stuff like that.

How much difference are you talking about?

Mine was comparitively low to begin with, but I do all city driving most of the time. I haven't noticed and significant decrease at all after the intake, maybe at most .5 miles/gallon. But I also have my air on full blast almost all the time now, being it's 95 with 90+% humidity.

Not much about gas mileage

I just installed one myself. I did't think my check engine light should've come on but it did. Is this common?

The check engine light may come on if the maf sensor picks up too much oil due to the filter change. Clean your maf sensor or replace it. I have just ordered the K&N, and expect it anyday now. I have experienced a decrease in mileage over the last week, but I attribute it to extremely high humidity and temperatures, as well as my driving habits. I am only getting about 245 miles to a tank, whereas I was getting 285. Once the humidity drops, you should see a change. Check the filter and duct that you installed as well. Like the man said, if you have a blockage, it will act just like a choke, and throw you into a rich run. That will suck some fuel, although I would think that the CEL would come on in that case.

Thanks, I'll try cleaning the MAF sensor and report back as to what happened.

It shouldn't really do anything to your mileage. I stress shouldn't. If anything, you should get a small decrease in mileage under hard throttle. Since you're hoping the K&N is moving a little more air in. If so, the engine is using a little more gas...
