Exhaust?

Ok guys here is the deal, and i need some help with this one. I have the chance to build any exhaust i want for my RL using and pre-existing components. I.E. cat/res/muffler

here is what i want to do, i want to go with a side exhaust that is gonna be loud but not like ear pounding loud. I do not know much about our exhaust really so i wanted to get some ideas. i would be going full headers back and size mandrel bent pipe i want. and i do not want to lose any TQ, if possible i would like to make a balanced system that would add to both HP and TQ.

And i want to keep all the stock sensors in place.

The guy who is making this for me just did a headers back side exhaust on a skittle and it sounds great. Its 3" all pipe but i think that we are gonna need at least a cat and res to keep the stock sensors.

Any thoughts would be great guys. Thanks.
I do plan on getting the Psi-FI kit so some mark your thoughts would be great as to what you think would be best for your kit.

Keep the cat and resonator, or opt for a bigger resonator. Without it you will prolly shoot yourself. Remember, a turbo is a muffler, so the SRT will have a different sound. You will gain torque by opening the exhaust. What you may change is your top end horsepower by changing the header. Up or down, I don't know. Depends on how it's tuned.

Uniqueness is cool!

I personally would like to just see one good cat-back on the market . . . you could go non-muffled, but it'd be louder than all hell . . . yrethguad said it pretty much right though.

As far as the side exhausts, I'd say don't do it - it'll look goofy if you ask me. This isn't a Roush mustang, you don't have the bodywork to make it look right.

well personally i went with 3" from the cat back.... the joint after the cat is where mine starts... from there he but the same style joint and strecthed it to 3" left off the res(it's really loud!... louder than i expected!) and put a apexi style muffler at the end it's loud but growing on me besides when i put the silencer in it sounds too much like an import.... not that i dislike the sound of an import but it just isn't one!!!! honestly i think jumping to 3" was a big step but once i do more to the motor i won't have to worry about my exhaust in the future!

So you don't want it to sound like it's breathing well, instead you want to sound like a typical domestic 4........ Awesome...

Mitch, if you like the side idea go for it. This car needs something unique!!! Did you see Scooter's side setup? Take a pic of your car from the side you will use and photoshop your tip on there to be sure.

I'm not saying go mufflerless, I'm saying a turbo (like in the SRT you were talking about) is a muffler, so the sound he has is one thing, if you try the same components on yours it won't sound the same. Without a resonator you get a raspy annoying sound. I'd use a muffler on yours, yes, but I'm not thinking you want it at the exhaust tip either if it's going out the side. Having a long tip after the resonator will cause it to pop. Generally the longer the tube after the resonator the louder the pop. If you don't have a muffler afterwards, that is.

I only have like a foot after my resonator and it sounds like gunshots when i decelerrate. I've grown fond of it actually. If ur going side-exit, get the smallest muffler u can...its a tight fit under there. And get a flat tip and cut into the body if possible. My scrapes everything because i used the stock tip. In the future im going to change it and make it look more stock. There's a big piece of body plastic right before the rear wheel. I'll get a custom exit there so the whole tip can come out of the body not below it. If u want pics of mine, go to my car domain. Side-exhaust is really unique, and i've gotten a lot of props because of it. It almost mixes the tuner scene with the american muscle scene.

my car sounds just fine i said it sounds like an import with the tiny silencer.... look everyone has an opinion about exhaust but it's your car don't do what everyone else has done do what you want it's not like it's going to make a world of difference anyhow... personally what i did opened mine up a lot i could care less what others think of my exhaust i'm pleased
