Home made short ram intake

After getting impatient because the AEM short ram intake always seemed to be back ordered, I had my own made. I'm hoping that the middle of next month I'll be putting my car on the dyno to see if there are any gains from it. Basically it bolts right on the end of the stock rubber intake pipe and sits in the factor air box. Nice and easy to install and now I hear a nice supercharger whine!

have you tested it for at least ~100 miles and no code? you will also need to replace the stock tubing to see bigger gains.

I have at least 5000 km and no code. The internal diameter of the pipe at the MAF sensor is identical to stock. At a later date I do want to get rid of that rubber boot and install a larger diameter aluminum pipe. Like I said, for the time being, I was just after hearing the supcharger whine, and I will dyno it later next month. Either way, I really can't see it hurting performance.

Seriously, all I did, was go to a friend of mine who's a machinist and gave him my intake tube, air filter, and MAF sensor. About a couple of hours later, he came back with that piece and asked if that was what I was looking for. It's exactly what it looks like, a machined aluminum pipe with a flat piece of aluminum with a hole in it to hold the MAF sensor. He even tapped the screw holes for the MAF so that I could use the same stock screws.

Overall, I'm extremely happy with it.

That kinda sucks then...

I do have a friend with a RL here that want one like mine and in the near future, we'll probably be taking it out, dimensioning it up and drawing it up on AutoCAD. When we get that done, I could send you the drawing that way you could take it to any machine shop to get it made.

I'll PM you when I do this if you're interested. We'll probably see what an average machinist will charge to see if it actually saves any $$$ at all.
