Armcclure's Build Thread; 400hp on a budget
First off let me start by saying this will not be a quick build. Parts will be bought as money allows; shooting for in the car by spring.
After much himhawwing around and changing my mind back and forth, i decided to stick with my original plan; to shatter the M62 2.0L LSJ record on a budget.
From front to back, the setup will tenetively look like this:
3.5" custom intake
Ported LS4 TB
Fully rebuilt M62 from snout seal to needle bearings, fully ported and polished
ZZP MPS w/2.6" pulley
*Custom intake manifold
Billabong ported head; intake and exhaust <- matched to longtube
stock valves, ZZP 82# springs
ZZP stage2 s/c grind cams
ARP head studs
Cometic Head Gasket
**stock LNF block
Diamond 10.5-1 pistons w/ total seal rings, cryo treated
stock lsj rods, cryo treated and polished
stock lsj crank
ZZP longtube header, 3" catless dp, 3" dump after dp (for dyno, full 3" for street)
e98 for dyno, e85 for street
custom or ported SP IM
my pass through tank
custom Cryogenic coolant chiller (hybrid between KillerChiller and a CryO2 kit)
Custom front mount sealed to bumper opening (if feasable)
Nitrous Express Direct-Port wet kit, Progressive controller 25hpX4
DIY meth injection w/ AIS parts
ATI overdrive superdamper
Non-HP related items:
Powell stage2 mounts
lnf aluminum control arms
Powell hardcore bar
WOT box (drag shifting, just for fun)
ZZP stage2 with 4.45 gearset
*if a custom IM worth making can't be made, then i'll run a ported single pass IM
**LNF block has been to handle crazy power (not s/c, but still..) ideally i would like to find an LDK block, generally accepted to be the strongest eco block available, but cost and availability make the LNF much more likely.
The LNF is updated from all other genII's, could be called a genIII really but GM left the name alone. only difference of the LDK block is allegedly a better casting.
Entire rotating assembly will be balanced to 10,000k but i will stop the dyno pull after peak power is made, guessing around 9-9.5k according to emails with tim and calculations they made on the cams.
based on the parts that i already have or have lined up, my target cost (not including trans) is under $2000.
i'm not saying anyone can go out and do this for under 2k;
i have alot of connections and capabilities that should make this possible.
the 2k budget is also from where i am now; on top of parts i already have on the car.
all new bolts will be used, seals as needed.
realistically i'm shooting for 350+ off spray, but no one to my knowledge has taken a 2.0L M62 past 8k, so who knows where the power will stop climbing....
post your thoughts, comments, anything important that i forgot to mention, etc...
