I got a different code I got a lean code, not a maf error.
If you clean of the oil on the k&n, you are making it utterly useless. The oil in that filter is what makes it work. Change filters if you elect not to use k&n. I have used the K&n with the filter for some time without any issue. There is more plumbing between the filter and the maf with the K&n filter as opposed to stock air box.
Honestly, I have never measured the stock intake. I remember hearing it was 2.5 in, though. I am not sure what caused the difference.
Either way, I was tuned before it and drove for some time with any codes. After install, my STFT and LTFT were off significantly enough to throw a lean code. I had to retune the MAF setting to accommodate the k&n. That is the basis of my statement.
The K&N filters come with way too much oil on them when they are bought brand new. You'll end up sucking in all of that oil and getting that crap all over the MAF sensor.
Stuff that bitch with some paper towels and let it sit overnight. That'll remove the excess oil.

The typhoons is actually smaller than the stock intake. Your comp should adjust for the air intake amount after a few minutes. Cleaning the filter just makes it like a aftermarket filter but it can be washed. Yes they come with a crazy amount of oil on em. They have cleaning kits for them try amazon or maybe jcw.
It was that way for a few months while I waited to get tuned.
I did set the filter in shop towels overnight but it still was oiled so I imagine that would be accurate.
Going lean means it is seeing less air which means it is flowing more. I am not claiming hp gains but I am saying it acted as if I added a large intake.

As Vyperpunk stated, the best way to clean the excess oil off the K&N is to wipe it down, and then stuff it with paper towels, and let it sit over night. Thats what I did, and I've been fine for almost a year (knock on wood).

You are not the only one, I was lucky. It seems reading k and n threads that the typhoon users were about 50/50 with a code back in the day.
Great mod Imo. Even though it doesn't add hp. Though, it works great for scaring the shit out of people. I have raced people and they said that is all you can hear from the drivers side over their motor lol
