Tune required?

Hey all,

Currently running a 2.8" Pulley on 50lb injectors with a ZZP flashed ECU.
Intake mod is an intake bucket delete and a K&N filter strapped to the end of the MAF Lid.
Runs great.

I just ordered a K&N Typhoon CAI.

Will I need a new ECU flash from zzp for this to run properly?

To run it "properly", yes. You can run it without a tune, but most people have their CEL come on.

Thanks Vyper. Real quick, the only thing I'm really worried about, is Under WOT will I lean out and detonate the engine?

No tune needed the cai doesnt do much besides make the sc wine louder. Just clean the oil off the filter or buy a dry filter before you install it and you might not get a code. I would think you would be suckin all kinds of water with a box deleat, so ya just have the filter hangin next to the motor in the open?

I got the code myself when I installed the kn cai. I tuned it out. You are going from a 2.5 in intake to a 3 in so the maf sensor sees less air. You mustadjust your maf settings to compensate.

I have the typhoon on mine. When I first put it on I got the code. I got tired of seeing it so I tossed it on my shelf. It sat there a year and I guess the oil drained off and dried up cause ive had it on for a year now with no code.

No, the stock intake plumbing has no such 2.5 restriction unless it is the snorkle, I'll save Qwik the trip in here.
The K and N is badass because of the sound, thats it. It actually holds heat more than the stock plastic, however I have one and have had no issues after 3 yrs.

How do you clean the oil off the filter? Just put it in hot water?

I got a different code

I got a lean code, not a maf error.

If you clean of the oil on the k&n, you are making it utterly useless. The oil in that filter is what makes it work. Change filters if you elect not to use k&n. I have used the K&n with the filter for some time without any issue. There is more plumbing between the filter and the maf with the K&n filter as opposed to stock air box.

Honestly, I have never measured the stock intake. I remember hearing it was 2.5 in, though. I am not sure what caused the difference.

Either way, I was tuned before it and drove for some time with any codes. After install, my STFT and LTFT were off significantly enough to throw a lean code. I had to retune the MAF setting to accommodate the k&n. That is the basis of my statement.
