Stock Shifter Mod.

Has any RL member ever thought of modifying the stock shifter? Getting rid of the stock crap shift knob and stupid vertical threads!

What i'm thinking is cutting off the vertical stock threads and finding a another stock shifter (from another vehicle) with a "normal" size mm thread size that will fit on our shifter's and weld that motherfucker on! So I can start using a shift knob of my choice.

I know there is a spring right under the shift knob, I was thinking of just eliminating the spring and the reverse shift lock as well.

It's a cheap idea and a alternative to the B&M shifter for those who don't have $189 to spend.

Good idea?

Bad idea?

the b&m also changes the shift distance and has less play room, so all you will be doing is making it a threaded knob thats it.

I was told by a member that the reverse lock out helps guide you into 5th gear. If you remove it the shiftknob will go a few inches past 5th when you go to shift.

Note: this is just what I was told, I've never tried taking the reverse lockout off myself.

Somebody who races to 140mph or so.

Well, a few questions, the stock shifter 'stick' is all one piece, and it's pretty specifically shaped. So, it's kinda hard to 'find' another stock shifter to put it in place. Ya know? Or are you just talking about welding on the top couple of inches to have the threads on it? If that's all you're after, then I don't see any reason not to do it, I mean it seems like ALOT of work for what you're after, but if you really want it, and don't want to spend the money on the B&M, it sure sounds like a reasonable alternative.

Why not just find what size threads the new knob has, and buy a die to thread the end of the shifter to accept the new one? It seems like that would be a lot easier than trying to weld something on the end of it.

i'm not trying to make anything more precise/solid than the B&M, I just want a alternative to our POS shift knob. That's it.
