Question "Corvette" steering?

A few years back I remember being told that in a 'vette the steering is like 1.5 turns to go from full left/right to full right/left. This means that from straight forward, it's only a 3/4 turn to go all the way one way or the other. It seems to me like this would be one sure-fire way to kick ass at AutoX events. Can anybody confirm/deny this and does anybody know what it would take to do this to a car that doesn't already have the capability? Does the redline have this feature? (I don't own a RL, just a QC)
It also seems like it would make the car just a helluva lotta fun to drive

I think our steering is already tight enough but if you want to be able to sneeze and change lanes then what you speak of might be a good idea

The steering in the ION Red Line was reduced to 2.9 turns from lock to lock, as opposed to the normal ION QC having 3.5 from lock to lock. I love the tight turning radius in my Red Line for daily driving, I imagine it would benefit for autocross as well. The info I posted about the steering came from a Saturn sales and marketing brochure I was given by a salesman when I was looking into getting my '04. When I got home and read through all the information, I noticed a small line at the bottom of the 1st page stating that the publication was for Saturn staff only, not to be handed out to customers. Oooppps, he he.

Our steering system is entirely electric, so it may be possible with some new programing.......... then again I have no idea what I am talking about

Agreed - the Ion overall has a very tight radius. Especially when comparing it to the SC1 that I had previously - that thing was what, 10' long and took a 3 point turn no matter how much room you had! I love the radius on the Ion. Thanks for the info on the turns that were modified for the Redline... now the only question is how did they modify it? If it's with some programming then hell... let's see if we can get a vendor to do the 1.5 lock to lock for us!

The software the controls the steering, I think, is variable with speed. Maybe Wop can tell us if there's a way to increase anything. I'm not sure how it works, at all.

the only thig the electronic sterring is is like a power sterring unit just no pumps and lines the rack is manualno program will ever change the times of rotation to lock to lock when you are under 45mph sterring effort is easy at 45mph the sterring motor at nutral at speeds over 45mph the sterring effort will increase . just had a class on this type of sterring setup

Ya its not "Steering by wire" .... Its just electric assist instead of hydraulic assist for the "Power" portion..... I dont have have an RL (Have an SS).. But I thought my turning radius kind of sucked....

Speaking of "by wire" I can't wait until our throttle body has a malfunction on it!
