I'm pretty sure we're not going to have to tear our engine apart to get 300hp out of this thing
I feel pretty confident that we can pull mid to upper 400's with our stock setup. If you look at the GM build book it doesn't really indicate that anything needs to be changed over with that kind of HP rating...I'm assuming of course that we have what is listed there (it appears so anyway)

SO there saying are stock pistons are a piece of crap and can't handle 300hp????
I thought everything in the 2.0L motor was good for about 350-400hp.

Here's straight from the GM build book

The stock 2.2LECOTEC pistons have been tested to power
levels approaching 300 hp.

So I mean I'm honestly guessing that ours are a way beefier version. I really don't think this should be a concern for us.

Hmm then again in the parts list:

Piston set for LSJ Rods (less than 300 hp only) 88958634 GM Performance Parts

I think WOP needs to shoot in a comment or two here. Christ I hope we don't have to do a piston swap. I'm pretty sure that would infuriate me possibly to the point of selling the thing. My dreams of twin charging are starting to fizzle :|

The pistons are swapped out for 2 maybe 3 reasons.
1. To get from 9.5:1 to 10:1 C/R and boost the power production.
2. To make room for upgrades beyond 300 HP down the road.
3. Less likely, but some-what so to make valve room for the more agressive cam profile.

What they are outlining is a basic balance/blueprint of the engine while you are in it to install the higher C/R pistons.

You'll lose about 10% of the expected 300 HP if you just do the injectors, cams and PCM calibration. I.E. the 270 HP vehicles going around now.

More is addressed on the bottom end in future articles

I think my issue here is that a lot of us are looking at twin charging this engine and were understanding that this block stock was supposed to be able to hold about 400 hp. If our pistons are going to start scorching at 300 horses well that doesn't make it too easy to add turbo to our system. I'm hoping I'm proven wrong on this issue.

I'd have to agree with SCDyne. It seems that the extra .5 increase in CR will help achieve the 300hp number a little easier. Also those forged aluminum ones will be good for beyond 300hp, which will inevitably happen.

On a side note, the article stated that the stock pistons are "eutectic?" I've heard of hypereutectic aluminum. Anyone know the difference betweern hypereutectic and eutectic pistons?

Read the article. They recommend changing out the pistons for 10.0:1 forged pistons. Also it's just a lot of deburring castings and balancing the rotating assembly. I have a feeling the 300 HP version is going ot be all about high revs, not so much about more boost.

All these guide and article GM puts out always error on the side of caution.
