why do you need a new one?

i just noticed the other day that there is a small crack/tear on one of the ribs on my belt. thankfully i noticed when the belt was in just the right position and the crack/tear was right on the supercharger pulley. i have a feeling 20k on the car is a bit soon for this to happen.

From what I have seen over time is the smaller the bends in the belt, the faster it cracks. For the tight bends on the pulley system on our cars, it would not be uncommon to be cracked at 20000. Not to mention the rpm of the pullies and the tension that it has to keep from slipping. When you have larger pullies with more of a sweeping pattern on the belt, it will last a whole lot longer.

guessing this is a part that will wear over time, it's likely not going to be covered under warranty.

i figure it takes a lot of stress and that is why, and it was only 1 rib, but it looks like it went to the belt itself (part of it that connects the ribs).

i'm going to see what they'll do about it.

Yeah, it is considered a maintenance item that wears just like brake pads. Unless you find that a pulley or tensioner caused the problem, they probably wont do a thing.

isn't a good indication of belt wear when you smell something burning when you've got the defrost on high, i get that in the mornings now that it's getting colder, didn't do it last year, and was thinking it might have something to do with the belt...
