Bought a cat-back...

Hey guys, I just picked up a brand spanking new DC Sports cat-back for my ION 2.2L. It was actually made for the 2.2L cobalts, but no one in the cobalt or ION community has heard this thing yet, or has ever installed it. Woohoo for exclusivity. Whenever it arrives and I have it slightly modified to fit, I will take pics and hopefully vids of it in action. I'll keep you all informed.

You can find it at Modern Performance under cobalt. Its funny how they have stuff listed for the cobalt but when you go to the ion section of there sight theres nothing there.

It's a 2.25" Mandrel-bent stainless cat-back exhaust. I am looking forward to receiving it. Funny thing is no one in the cobalt community has installed one yet due to the lack of sound clips released by DC Sports. The only things that need to be modified are the flange that connects to the cat (cobalts use a 2-bolt flange and 03-04 IONs use 3-bolt, 05+ use 2-bolt like cobalts) and the hangers in the rear (according to what I've been told here on this forum).

Pics to come, and possibly sound clips when I find a buddy with a decent digicam to follow me. "Stay tuned"

Call me crazy but I think its kind of dumb when people need to hear sound clips from exhausts. I mean really, how much sound variation can you get out of a 4 cylinder car. Not to mention capturing the true sound of an exhaust would be hard to do anyway.

Good luck on the install, I hope you are more satisfied with yours than I am my Tsudo exhaust.

No kidding... sound clips? That shouldnt be a total basis for purchase...

DC has a dyno of their product. It produced 4.5 peak hp at I believe 6200 RPM and like 3.7 peak lbs.ft. torque at something I forget. That's base. I have some small mods here and there, so this cat-back should compliment it well.

On a side note, I want to do something with the manifold down the road (possibly after I have the head ported and polished). Do you guys think I should go with RSM racing's 2.2L ION header (4-1 design) or go with GM's soon-to-be-released manifold? I know they announced it for the 2.0L supercharged but correct me if I'm wrong, it should bolt up to the 2.2L as well shouldn't it? Either way, I need to rid myself of that bottleneck dwn the road.

I'd go with one of the 'headers' as opposed to the stock GM, honed, manifold. If cost is a concern, the GM one is cheaper, and should make some gains. We've seen pics of your stock manifold though, and there's a lot to be opened up, stock. I would assume a 'real header' would give better gains.

Since RSM is pretty well local to me, I might just take a trip down there and get one. Not right now though as I just impulsively bought this cat-back, but hopefully by spring. Thanks for the help guys.

On anothr side note, I just tracked my parcel on the UPS site, the exhaust is sitting in Buffalo, NY and due to it being saturday, it'll be there this whole weekend. I'm about 45 mins from the Buffalo border, so it should be here sometime Monday. I can't wait. I'll provide updates as I get them.
