Gotcha, just called the dealer too and they said "As long as it's a GM part, it wont void the warranty"

Which leads me to stupid and overasked question #2: Does GM make stage upgrades?

Yes they do. I just took down the sticky with the part numbers attached, but if you go to www.crateenginedepot.com, go to the Cobalt performance stuff, you will see the kits and can get the part numbers there. I just give the site because it's got pics and part numbers. You should be able to find the part numbers on here as well.

Excelent, thanks Sp00ner.

When I picked up the car I asked them about pully swaps and they gave me a look like I asked them if I could put syrup in the car instead of oil.

Is there a thread (or should there be ) that maybe we can list what dealers from each state actually have a mechanic that knows a thing or two about RL's?

So a bone stock 07 IRL I can swap out the pulley to a 3.0 and go with colder plugs and I'll be fine? 1 or 2 steps colder? and anyone know which plugs would be best.

Also, on a side note, the stage 5 from intense is it truly a plug and play, no messin with the ecu or a tune or anything other than comes in the kit?

you only need one step colder for what you want. Go with NGK BKR7E and you'll be fine.

I'm still not gettin' it guys, sorry to be bothersome, but I'm missing something here in the big picture

Smaller pullies, sc stage upgrades, colder sp's, and the boost bypass mod.

-Smaller pully turns the belt faster and more air to the engine=more power CHECK

-Colder spark plugs remove heat more quickly and reduces the chance of engine damage CHECK

-Boost bypass mod. More boost psi CHECK

here's what I'm not understanding, the stage upgrades. In turbo's it usually means a bigger turbo, wastegate, BOV, IC, maybe a sprayer What exactly is being done when this is performed for sc's?? Shouldn't these upgrades come with smaller pullies and colder sp's? Do these upgrades need the boost bypass??

I think I'm reading too many threads here in too short a time it's all jumbling together. I'm a turbo guy and while some of the specifics are similar some are not.

The Stage 1 upgrade involves more fuel and more timing therefor makes more power.

Stage 2 has a smaller pulley along with more fuel and more timing.

Colder plugs are a crutch to make more power, but stock heat range plugs are fine with the increased timing. More Timing is better than Colder Plugs.

As far as spark plugs go, you want to run as cold a plug as possible, but hot enough so the plug will burn off crap that accumulates on it. Since adding boost also adds heat and increases the chance of knock, dropping to a colder plug will further remove the chance that the plug itself will become the source of knock. A 'hot' plug can stay too hot as you change the engine parameters and actually cause the A/F mix to combust before the plug fires.

I thought awhile ago WOP clarified this pulley size saftey ordeal.. Didn't he say we can run like a 2.7" safely? I'll have to see if I can find that thread he posted in, but it was pertaining to the pulley size and s/c rpm's.
