Cold Air Intake Numbers

Tons of threads on this, looked through them, didn't really find the answer to my questions. That being said this is definitely redundant.

I've been looking into the ZZP CAI, does anyone have any numbers/experience with it?

I get that it is tuned for, but will it really increase hp/tq if the air still has to go through the stock throttle body? This would be a restriction wouldn't it?

they have a nice appearance

and some prefer them for the sound they make

but from what I read (same stuff on the forum) they don't add any HP

... the manufactures claim about 10-20 HP

I do love the sound of the supercharger. Do you know how the sound of a CAI would compare to a cone drop in filter and the air box mod?

no I actually did not even know that one

...

there are threads here that go into ways to change the whine or sound with out buying aftermarket

but I guess if it goes wrong then you got to buy the aftermarket anyway

air box mod

also might run the risk of losing a few HP after reading that thread

That link is similar to what I did with my air box. I drilled a drainage hole in the bottom. Cut out the lid on the wheel/ bumper side (left the engine side alone). And then put a window in the box on the wheel/bumper side. Again leaving the engine side alone. Then just dropped in a cone filter. It's a lot louder than stock, but still wouldn't mind more sound when I punch it.

There's not a huge gain to be made power wise going to a CAI. The difference is really in the sound/aesthetics. I don't recall any gain going from my factory hacked up airbox to the ZZP Gen 2. I did notice a better supercharger whine, and didn't worry about water getting sucked up.

Most of the restriction in the LSJ is in the exhaust side of the head and the fact that the M62 is inefficient below a 3.0 pulley.

Thanks for the info Rebel!
I really want more whine, but with the CAD so weak right now, I just can't justify 400 bucks for sound.

Did you remove the silencer tubing as well? The part that goes from the airbox to the wheel-well area.

But to answer your original question, the K&N intake does not really give you any gains. Some say it even lowers power due to the piping being smaller than stock. The sound it makes is pretty awesome, though!

Oh, i thought that the silencer tubing was a liner inside the intake, explains why i didnt see it when i looked in there haha. No , I left that tubing in there, figured it would still help pull in cooler air. Did you take yours out?

The tube in the fender is the silencer and keeps water out of the box. The k&n typhoon replaces the whole system and moves the filter to the fender. It amplifies the whine a lot but gives no upgrade to performance.

Here is some k&n whine
