Lightbulb Turbo RL

I am on the verge of getting an RL and i am kind of weary about the whole supercharged setup. I know it is reliable, but for the simple fact that everytalks about how u can't upgrade to a smaller pulley because of the heat. I have heard a lot about having to upgrade superchargers. I was contemplating about just going turbo and be done with it. I was just curious about the distance between the firewall and the engine?

I'd just keep the supercharger or buy something with a turbo on it already. There will be plenty of room to make power with the set up it has. Did you see the 272 hp Cobalt? WITH the supercharger, and WITHOUT major upgrades to the supercharger? If you think it's gonna be easier and worth it to take the supercharger off, and drop the cash on a turbo, that's your choice. The only reason that there isn't already upgrades for the car is the lack of supercharged cars of this type in circulation. There will be plenty of stuff coming out, I'm almost positive that GM will offer a new aftercooler and pulley for the car soon, I even found part numbers for the stuff, it's just not out quite yet.

I'm just tired of GM being dumb with the aftermarket parts and their prices for them. Do you know how long GM has been promising the j-body community superchargers for the 2.4 and the ecotec? They finaly answered the 2.4 people after being postponed for a very long time. I just don't want to be in the same boat as my cavy which is having to wait for long periods of time with little tid bits of hope being thrown around.

Yea, but GM dosen't make the superchargers, the Eaton model that is on the Redline could have been strapped to the 2.4s. You could have turbo'd that engine with GM parts from the Saab's without having to wait. The lack of a supercharger for the Cavilier was answered with the Cobalt and the Redline. They made these two cars for just that reason. If you wanna talk about GM and the aftermarket, its HUGE. The GM aftermarket support is for things like Corvettes, Camaros, GTO's, GranPrixs, etc... GM is one of, if not the most, well supported names out there. Hell, I was watching your Ecotec powered Cavi running 1/4 miles at the Super Chevy Show and taking Camaro SS's. They were running turbos with nitrous, so the aftermarket isn't exactly that bad...

The GM aftermarket is bad. I have been on the eco boat since it all started. I know about the saab turbo and manifold i have one setting beside me. The problem with the saab setup is you need a special downpipe flange because it isn't a common turbo. it is a GT-17 and until recently hadn't been able to get anyone to touch it for less than what i paid for the turbo and manifold. MP performance i just found out recently makes one,but the car is getting old and worn out. Thats the reason for the redline. Hahn racecraft has pushed it to a 12.8 on a stock ecotec. i do know about the aftermarket other than GM is good.

Bro, you really think that the GM aftermarket is bad?? That's just nuts... there is no evidence that you could possibly support those statements with. I guarantee you that if you look at how much money trades hands, for ONLY GM branded cars, it would astonish you. If you've been on the Eco boat since it started, that would be all of like 5 years. Really, the last 3 years in particular. That's no time at all. Maybe you need to work a little harder at finding parts because these kids I was watching run 13's in Cavi's last year sure had it figured out. I'm not really sure what support you were looking for since you can buy everything for a Cavi that you can buy for any other sport compact. Hell, Jackson Racing and Turbonetics make direct fit kits for forced induction solutions for them, so what lack of support are you complaining about? I'm not sure what aftermarket you have looked into, but the GM aftermarket from a company wide standpoint is immense.

add a turbo, turn boost down on the supercharger, then you have something unique and freaking fast!

Custom tubes inc has a tubular manifold for the ecotec.

i think what was meant by "gm's aftermarket is bad" was that GM's aftermarket support for their vehicles is bad, which i would agree, but what car manufacturer provides "good" aftermarket support? Scion? that's a joke, DCX obviously, but that's a fairly new trend, and toyota with TRD performance parts is ok, but not comparable to the "actual" aftermarket.

GM is coming with stuff for us, i have no doubt about that, but we have to be patient, especially considering that the cobalt isn't even out yet (SSs/c), so time will tell.

aside from that, GM cars always receive HUGE aftermarket (not always, but on worthy cars), IN TIME. unless you're doing it yourself, you've gotta wait for stuff to be available, so if you're in a hurry, start e-mailing companies you want to see produce stuff, that's all you can really do for now...

One of the better companies has to be MOPAR.

All of the major parts for the cavalier have come out in the last year. When you talk about kids running 13's. Where are u located at?

My biggest complaint is it took 3 years for GM to finally do something with this engine after hyping it up. So that means its not what parts they have coming out,but WHEN!
