Falls out of gear0

My 05 rL with no LSD falls out of 5th gear on the highway. I'll be driving along maybe 65 or higher and all of a sudden i'm in neutral. Its done this in 3rd gear to while exiting on ramps. Any one have an idea of whats going on. Should i go to my dealer?

theres little metal keys in the syncro assemble this USUALLY is related to poping out of gear. while the little keys are cheap it requires complete dissassembly to fix so if your not under warranty its expensive.

I believe they are called detents.

oh man.. i hate to tell you this but i have seen this before... your 5th syncro is shot and mabey your 3rds are on the way out.. bring it to the dealership the tranny must be replaced.. and make sure the car is fine.. might need new shift cables too...

sry this is bad news but this is what you need to do.. your not the only one to do this

I couldnt remember the name of them all that I know is that it looks like a metal key thats used on a crank shaft of a old school small block chevy to hold a harmonic balancer in place

detents are found in the shift rails.. they don't have much to do with poping out of gear... hoping out of gear is caused by either a bent shift fork, a worn cone clutch, bad dog teeth, or human error (you didn't push it in all the way)..

now i'm gunna assume that you did push it in all the way so it's prolly your cone clutch

took the car to saturn . In the computer the dealer ship who i bought it from had recorded they dissassmbled the tranny and replaced 3 and 4 synchros. Nobody told me about that. I thought my car was new when i bought it.

its also caused by bad "syncro keys" thats what im going to call them seems I cant remember the name for them. which can have alot to do with poping out of gear and its also part of the syncro assembly. this is one of the diagnostic questions that can appear on the ASE test for manual drive train and axles its book A3 if your interested.: cool:
