Problem w/ Moonroof Switch?

Hi all,

I just purchased an 04 Redline a couple of days ago. So far, I've seen the "service engine" when attempting to start.

I also think my moonroof switch is bad. I've never been in another Ion before, but it seems to me that this switch has three positions. I don't think it's normal to have to toggle between two of them to get the moonroof to go back.

Can someone verify that so I can add/remove it from my list?

Thanks in advance.

Ok first off Welcome to the forum and most of us will try to help you out the best we can, there are a few bad apples you can just ignore them. I'm the resident idiot but im a genious
Ok now with your problem:
You have an 04 which was not the gold year for the RL, as it was its first year, I get the service vehicle thing every once and a while but I just ignore it as I do not believe they have a fix for it. The moonroof situation however is weird. You should just have to push back to go up and push foward to close, when you dont push either front or back the switch will stay in the middle. So yes it has 3 positions but with 1 being close, 2 being open and 3 being do nothing. The car is a blast to drive as you may have already known and it has its little quirks here and there but I have an 04 and its been nothing but a blast for me and has given me no problems I can think of that I havent induced on myself If you got any other questions feel free to ask

Thanks for the welcome.

I made an error. Mine has four positions:

1: Closes moonroof
2: Normal position when not in use
3: One click away from the windshield, raises moonroof
4: Two clicks away from the windshield, does nothing
In between 3-4: Slides moonroof back.

And while I'm thinking of warranties... I bought this used from a Dodge dealer. It's an 04 w/ 24k miles. It comes w/ a 30 day, 1000 mile warranty from the Dodge dealership, but isn't it also still on the factory Saturn warranty? Admittedly, this is a question I forgot to ask the dealership. I'm not used to cars w/ warranties.

The reason I ask is b/c TSB-esque problems, I would assume, are best handled by Saturn trained techs.

Yes, Welcome aboard fellow Marylander! I would have the dealer replace the switch if it keeps acting up. They may need to replace the body control module to stop the service vehicle display. Does the passlock logo (little yellow pic of a car with a pad lock going through it, near the top left) light up with the s/v message?

I dont know but the switch could just be old and "feel" like it has multiple positions. If it aint broke I wouldnt worry about it, cuz a "saturn trained" tech isnt anything special. Some guys on here have had techs tell them that they voided thier warranty by installing that supercharger lol. If you had the BCM replaced it would most likely fix the passlock problem your having. Also, yes your warranty is for 3 yr/ 36,000 miles so you should still be good. Let us know how it goes on monday

Black. Chromies. Aero wing. K&N intake. QuickLifts.

Carfax says it was registered in Nottingham, MD. I bought it from Schaefer and Strohminger Dodge on Joppa Rd. in quasi-Towson.

Watts.... Good to see someone from MD on these boards. I've never actually seen a Redline on the road here. Yes, the Passlock light shows up. Seems to only do it if I leave the key in "On" for a minute before starting the car.

Alpha... I hear ya on the "Saturn trained" bit, but they'll at least have access to the TSBs. That, and I have a HUGE chip on my shoulder after Dodge declined to fix my Neon's headgasket b/c it had an aftermarket intake (and fixing it was much less than hiring a lawyer, as is always the case) so I'd prefer to avoid them.

Don't get me wrong, ALWYAS bring your car to your local Saturn retailer but just take what a tech tells you with a grain of salt. Unless they seem cool and actually know what they're talking about. Hell, I used to have a Ion QC3 and the only reason I got a Ion RL was because of 2 techs at my dealership that know what the hell they are doing and I never regretted it.

I can tell you right now you have the check engine because of the kn intake. As for the sunroof...I don't know...I usually won't get anything fixed until it doesnt work period but that's just me...
