Does All Redline Radios Do This?

I have a general question for all redline owners. I owned a 2004 redline (it had a wierd malfunction so SATURN gave me an 05) both cars do the same thing.

Put your radio on any audible AM radio station. Run the car at least 35 MPH and break heavily to a stop. The more change in speed the longer the situation will occur. I hear a (pretty loud) ringing sound in the speakers. Some kind of radiated noise from some kind of component.

What component could it be? Since the brake lights are DC and the noise is pretty constant it probably is not the brake lights. Looking at wiring physical arrangement in the FSM I believe it is from some kind of transient DC or AC source possibly the fuel tank level sensor and fuel level is moving when the car is braking or it is some kind of output from the Body Control Module for some kind of Antilock Brake Signal.

1) How many of you have this problem, it happened in two redlines that I know of so odds are there are more.

2) Do any of you know what it is or how to fix it?

I'd guess there's a frequency interference somewhere...every single thing on that car that rotates or spins creates and emits a frequency...maybe the antenna is picking it up via AM???

We had to study radio waves back in Tech School, but most of that info/training has been brain dumped, so the details are long gone by now...

Probably the ABS emitting electromagnetic interfearence. Do you really listen to AM? I thought my dad was the only one.

My guess would be the ABS system too....though I notice a high pitched tone on normal 'dial' type radios when listening to AM as I am to damn lazy to get it perfectly on the station...

That sounds about right, fortunately for me, I didn't have my stock radio long enough to see any kind of problems like that. I threw in this one about a week after I got the car. nothing special, but I thought i'd share

OK not to have to defend myself. I have a 500W MTX amp that uses the stock 6 CD radio. Normally listen to Metal. But what I really would like to know. I will bet any stock radios will do the same thing. I also noticed it happening when I go over a speed bump fast like it is a wire that moves somewhere.

Do any of you have this problem? If so it will bolster my case with the dealer to issue a TSB.

Yes, this happens to me as well. Weird as hell. I haven't had a tech look at it yet, but I have always noticed it.

Any radio will pick up EM interference from the engine itself, the transmission, and yeah the ABS, and many other sources. The AM band is particularly problematic... you will hear high tension wires, lightning, and even meteors high in the atmosphere, solar flares, etc on AM. That is why most formats (especially rock) switched to FM in the 70s and why AM is a talk radio wasteland today... FM has better fidelity. Of course, you can't win... FM is more susceptible to echos off of buildings, mountains, etc. and has a far shorter range than AM and with the XM you lose the signal as soon as you lose line of sight with the satellite (under a parking structure, etc.)
