Chattering/banginging noise WTF!!

Whenever I'm going in reverse, I get a chattering noise like as if a motor mount was bad. I also get a banging noise whenever I shift between gears. I checked the transmission mount and the upper mount, they seem ok. What the hell could it be? With all of the odd noises this car makes, it is really starting to piss me off.

This car is all stock

The front transmission mount seems fine. How much movement should there be between the top mount and the rear mount? The top one seems to have movement along with the rear, but it may be normal, I don't know. Does Saturn cover mounts under warranty?

If u have an 04 u probably have the same problem im having and it seems to be the rear mount with the bracket to the tranny .I am waiting on cynics motor mount to get to me I already installed the right mount and the front tranny mount and it already seems to help alot. But my rear tranny mount is banged up i took it out and it was cracked in a couple of places

I saw on cobalt.s.s.net the a few other people had troubles with the rear transmission mounts too. What a POS. Where exactly is the rear transmission mount, on the backside or is it the one under the underhood PCM?

Everything would be covered under warranty, the car is new. If you're getting a banging between shifts, that's not right. Nor is it common.

it sounds like one of your mounts maybe gone..

I had the same issue with my rear transmission mount, between shifts it would clunk and make tons of cabin noise.

Ahhh yes. I have been round and round with my Satty dealer about the rear trans mount rubbing the bracket. They tell me it is "normal". I just installed the solid mount from ZZP and it gave me all the clearance I needed for that to stop. Also...when I was experiencing a lot of clunking going on whenever I shifted or hit a dip in the road I took it in. Turned out to be a fault in the sway bar end links. Tech said someting about the factory screwed up and installed ones for a cavalier or some crap on a bunch of them and there was a service bulletin about it. I checked when I got home and sure enough, on the drivers side end link the lower "ball joint" of the end link was freely spinning (which it shouldn't do) and the nut was backed off and rattling around. May wanna check that out.

SOAB! I really hope that isn't the case with mine and it is the motor mounts which hopefully will be installed SOON!

Mine does it too. I also have a chili red 05 non comp. Everytime I hit the clutch it sounds like the clutch disc is clunking in the tranny. I don't know what it is.........but that's what warranty is for.
