Thats weird! Can you actually hear alot of noise coming from the tube? Try grabbing it with a wrag and see if the sound changes. I wonder what effect it will have if you plug it... It would probably be easy to pinch it shut and weld it, or just find a bolt that fits.

Take it to a muffler shop and check for leaks.

Alpha and I are messing with it now. Were gonna see if we can figure it out before taking it to a shop. I am passing on this message because he is under his car at the moment. This also reminds me how bad we need mechanic gloves.

I'm not sure what they do but cats with an air tube are illegal for use on OBD II cars in Cali. I believe all of catco's high flow cats have them. I put one on my old honda accord and couldn't hear a difference.......stock exhaust though. Just get a 50 state legal high flow

Take it to a muffler shop. The one I'm at has a full stock of metal plugs for these.
I tend to weld them shut though, dont trust the plugs.

If memory serves. the airtube was to help the cat be more effective w/ reducing startup emissions.

Ok well it turns out it was capped anyway, but I troubleshot it a little and took the cap off and ran it and it sounded like a leak from the same spot as usual but a little louder, reved the car and sure enough... raspy again. So I took the biggest screw I could find and shoved it in and *sigh* rasp again. DAMNIT I CANT WIN!! So i put the cap back on but this time with some copper gasket sealant on it and went to sleep to let it cure. I'll rev it tommorrow but its gonna do the same thing anyway. Does anyone know if the "air tube" cats are built different and this design difference could somehow alter my exhausts sound. idk, someone... please... anyone throw me a bone here. Its amazing that with all I know about cars the dumb crap is always what gets me! AAAHHHH AWRWRGHAWERHASERGHA!!!
