! Need HELP LSJ Trans Problem!

Yesterday coming home work in traffic I'm crusing along and I go to upshift from 3rd to 4th when all the sudden my shift is as loose as a goose and will not engage ANY gear! I pull over and check all the linkage connections and are all connected. My friend shows up and pulls up on the shaft on the trans where the cables connect, then I was able to shift into 3rd. After he let go I again had no control of the of the shifts. Had it towed to the dealer and the service advisor now wants me to pay $380 for a tear down so the rep can determine if it was abuse!! I need help because I have no money to pay for this. I am a tech, but have very little experience with trans work. Thanks

Call Saturn Customer Service.

They can't charge you to tell if it was abuse or not. They look at it THEN charge you (if it was abuse.)

I should mentioned it was a Cobalt SS, but I did call GM and they also said I had to pay, but if it was a mechanical defect the rep would warrenty it. BS if the dealer is already saying it was abuse then the rep will go with there judgement.

well they should tear it apart first then charge you if its your fauly. at least thats the way most dealerships work. you dont pay untill the work is done, if indeed you do have to pay. I shouldnt be saying anything, as im kinda going through some kinda similar issues and they're probably watching me.

If they even hinted that I abused the car, I would've been on the phone w/ my lawyers. Nothing pisses me off more than when a tech assumes I broke something.

I fought with Saturn over an issue for 6 months before the it was resolved. It can be a pain, but it can be done. Of course, my car was driveable during this whole period...

Good luck.

It shouldn't matter if it was abused or not. They should make the car with some rigidity. It's not like the warrenty is null and void as soon as the engine revs above 3500 rpm's and the vehicle reaches speeds in excesses of 65 mph. That's just fucking bullshit.

If it was abused it is not covered. If you yank on the shifter so hard that you mess up the linkage, it's not their fault.

Howver, they should NEVER make you pay to determine what the issue is. That's BS. They have to PROVE that it was abuse before they can deny warranty coverage.

Lets say the roll pin broke, can they consider that abuse at 21K?
