Let's just get this straight once and for all: Intercooler pump

I made this video today in order to help other people who are new to the RL and it's many...ecentricities.

Coolant Flow Vid

The coolant shouldn't flow up to the top of the filler neck like that when the car is idling, you would either need to pinch it as I did or have someone rev the engine for you, correct?

Good idea man, I have been wondering about mine for some time now. I thought it wasn't working then it was, and so on. I'm going to go check once and for all.

edit: I checked mine, the coolant seems low, but its working. Where can I buy (and how do I change out the old stuff) new coolant?

Figured I'd post a reasonably cheap replacement pump in case someones isn't working.

Hmmm I just went outside and did this to mine, and the coolant rose but it didnt rise much... Almost seemed not to be flowing at all... Which is weird..... Hmmm.. I wonder if I goto Saturn and pop the hood and show em this.. Will they repair it?

Either your flow is backwards or mine is. I have to pinch the drivers side hose to make the level rise to the top of the fill neck.

Given that it is a centifugal pump, the outlet ( pressure side) is radial and the inlet ( suction side ) is in line with the pump motor. I believe the flow comes out of the pump, into the intercooler, past the fill neck, on to the HE then back to the pump. Reving the motor should make a negligable difference as it's an electric pump.

Cool, Thanks Sp00ner!

Pierre, I think that's acceptable. NoRemorse told me that either side could cause the fluid to rise depending upon which way the stream was flowing.

Since you're an 04, yours probably isn't working either. When you go to the dealer, they won't do anything unless you tell them that there is a problem with the performance. Just tell them that there is hesitation in really hot weather, and when the car gets hot, the power seems to fade. Those symptoms will lead them directly to the I/C pump wireing TSB.

When I switched my wires polarity, I could immeadeatly see the difference in the coolant flowing.

Not necessary. This is special coolant, "Dexcool" or something like that, anyway, it's supposed to last like 100k miles or something like that, so it's not necessary to flush/change it, just add more as needed. And be sure to use the same compatable coolant, the old green stuff will ruin it and I believe damage your system.

Oh and you can get the coolant anywhere they sell antifreeze, just make sure it's the same red/pinkish color and you're good.

Actually just squeezing the hose (even with the car turned off) will cause the coolant to rise just from the displacement decreace in the hose itself. You have to look for it to rise after you squeeze the hose, not in conjunction with the squeezing. If yours is working properly, you will be able to see it clearly, if there's any doubt at all, it's probably not working.
