Question powerband hiccup/studder

So there is an interesting problem with my IRL. Sometimes, and only sometimes, I get a hiccup or studder in the powerband and it is always between 3k and 4k on the tach, and only in second gear. It does it most often when the motor is getting warmed up, like for example, the first major acceleration I put my foot into. I can not determine what it may be, but it happens in damp, hot, cold, or dry weather conditions, and will only happen randomly, some days its fine.

Here is some info on my car;
-2004
-K&N is only engine mod, no cels in over a year (no more oiled filter)
-updated on all reflashes but the new one for rough idle

I would go in for the rough idle update because my car does have a rough idle, but I'm sure it would be blamed on my intake and I would get nowhere.

The reson I post this now is because as of this Friday I will have stage 2 on my car, and am thinking the problem may become worse? I may take off the K&N, may leave it on to see if stage 2 flash cleans up the issue.

Any thoughts from you HPT guys or people with the K&N and stage 2?
Anyone have a similar problem ever or know what would cause such a problem?

Beats me, and I would like to keep the K&N on, but cant ask a dealership to address the issue or they will blame it on the intake.

Thanks for any help.

This happened to me one time getting on the freeway. I was on it hard in second and the car stutterd big time. Big enough to cram my kmees into the dashboard. I was thinking, WTF. It never happened again. Sorry...no help from me...just ranting...

I havent had it happen since I got the new flash from the dealer, now that I think of it...it would only happen when I was driving under vaccum at about 2.5K, then id go to step on it, and it would bog down like it was going to stall, then go like a bat out of hell...
mine is an '05 w/ K&N, but I would also get it with the stock box...

Mine does it too. Well sort of. It's more like it doesnt have all it's boost then it surges all at once, 2nd gear only. 04 here btw

I never noticed it before moving to FL...My theory is the water in the K&N filter thing - THEORY. I've never really had to deal with the car in the rain like I have here, so it's all I can come up with.

It IS only in 2nd gear though, and it only happens once during that engine run cycle...I've tried to duplicate it, and nothing. Let the car sit outside during any sort of storm though, and get in and ON it - bingo.

As for your rough idle...mine was documented BEFORE the CAI was on, but I just took it to the dealer yesterday, first time the car has gone into THIS particular location, and they didn't even question the intake (did they ACTUALLY read the car's history first?)

Haven't really had a chance to test and see if it's fixed, but it didn't act up on the ride home...that's a start!

There's your problem.

2004s had a shitty tune. This hiccup does seem to get worse in hot/humid weather, or when the engine isn't up to temp. Unfortunately, GM's too stupid to convert them to newer settings. So, the only way to get this resolved is to use HP Tuners to upload a better tune.

I had this problem as well. If you can find someone near you w/ HP Tuners, I can email you a tune that'll help.

I am going to check on the H2O + K&N thing for sure even if it is not linked to the problem just to check it out.

I was hoping HPT could be a solution. I will leave things as is and get stage 2 put on and flashed, and see if the problem still occurs, if it does, I may remove the K&N. If it still occurs, then it's HPT time. What exactly did you tweek with HPT that helped with the problem, I wish I had a better understanding of such programs, and engines for that matter.

That would be cool. PM MGM and find out his email. He's got HPT, and I have this problem. I've had it before and after the stage tune though, so I don't know if the tune you have will work as well or not for me. I've noticed it in more than second gear I thought though, but it does it at such different times, maybe it is ony in second.
