I have never done it, but I hear that VERY BAD THINGS will happen if you have even a little bit of cross contamination. They are not compatable, and don't like each other at all.

u will have to flush it like crazy bro! but after its flushed and there isnt a trace of the dexcool, you should be okay. FYI redline water wetter isnt compatible with dexcool according to a mechanic i know who owns a cobalt ss/sc. he made that mistake cuz someone on the .net forums told him it was okay. I remember him telling me the second his car hit about 18k miles was when his cooling issues arose. He got it covered under warranty atleast.

Please don't tell me that dealership had anything to do with that...PLEASE.

In fact, if they did - just lie about it up here, b/c I don't wanna read that AT ALL.

So I guess all those "Mixes w/ any color coolant" advertisements are lying?

The color of the coolant really has no bearing. It's just a dye. What IS important is what the coolant contains.

For example... Dexcool is OAT. Chrysler uses an OAT hybrid. They're both orange, but incompatible.

Prestone, Peak and Dexcool are all OAT coolants, and are interchangeable.

Chances are, you're safe w/ any "long life" coolant, b/c none of them contain the level of silicates that conventional coolant. However, some contain more phosphates than acids, and that may not be a good thing.
