Front End Wobble

Hi--
I've noticed something with my 06 Red Line and wanted to see if anybody else has the same experience.

When doing a hard acceleration in first or second, going either straight or taking a slight turn, I notice the front end start to slip, and need to correct. Once I get into third and fourth, no problems.

I want to check my tire pressure to make sure all's well there (will do so when the sun comes up) but is this normal? Perhaps this is some oversteer I need to compensate for? Is it a front end allignment problem? Anybody have any input?

This is my first stick shift/high performance car, so I'm still learning a bit, and I'm perfectly at ease with somebody saying it's driver error, so don't hold back! --Brian

what do you mean by 'start to slip'?

Do you mean it pulls to one side.

If so, taht is torque steer, learn to live with it, it's the bane of FWD cars existance.

Just hold on tight, it's worse on other cars with unequal length half shafts if tyhat makes you feel better!

Yes, the front end begins to pull to one side, that's a good way of describing it. It's not so forceful that I'm afraid of losing the front end and spinning out. It's just irritating.

Torque steer, huh? Thanks, glad it's normal. The only thing I don't like about my Red Line is that it's not rear wheel drive.

But I enjoy the car so much, who cares? I've had it for almost two months nor and there's 4300 miles on the clock. --Brian

It's the one thing I don't like about the car...It's very entertaining in 2nd or 3rd gear WOT passing on a 2 lane crowned road.

I use my Redline to predict my day. If I hit the gas and she goes into oncoming traffic... it's going to be a bad day.

yea i feel bad for you sobs with no LSD. I can still break the tires loose through a turn, but it takes some work, I couldn't imagine with an open differential... ugh

Yeah, mine will torque steer like crazy, especially on uneven surfaces. I kinda like it sometimes, it really gets your adrenaline pumping, and it takes skill to keep it straight.

I used to think this way. Then I saw a Golf 1.8T take off from a redlight, and the driver had to fight some SERIOUS torque steer.

Not even thinking, I said "Man, that guy looks like a tard!" Then I realized that's exactly how I look when I'm fighting torque steer.
