Weird behavior

Ok so I regapped my plugs today to .35 . Didnt feel any different at any RPM... At least I didn't notice but oh well... Any way I was showing a friend my car and I went to get on it in second and the car pulled... Backfired... and then ran kinda weak. Tried it again... no backfire but felt weak. No CEL

So I went home and disconnected my battery and made sure my plugs were in good... Plugged back in after an hour. Started the car... Started fine. Gave it a big rev.... Once the revs dropped the car started to sputter... pop pop pop pop.... Then it went away... Took it for a test drive and any time I got above 3k RPM in any gear it did that... Felt like limp mode but no code or light...

Pulled over and sat for a few mins... Started it up and it's back to it's good self... Pulling just fine.

Why? Did I do something bad by revving it? I've noticed these cars hold revs in neutral real long so did I like... flood the engine? Or WTF? I'm so confused with this cars touchy attitude.

I'm going out on a limb here and gonna put (at LEAST) some of the blame on the cheapo Cali gas. That 91 caused SO many probs for me over the summer, it's not even funny. IMO, you're on the right track with the gap - so I'd suggest trying a 50/50 mix of 91 and 100 octane gas, on your next tank. Don't change ANYTHING else...if you still have the same issues - I'm betting you won't - then THAT'S your answer.

You're homework...find a Unocal or something with Race Gas - should be about $5/gal.

PS - what plugs ARE you running, with the 2.8"? You can't run the stockers, that much I can tell you for sure. You need to be AT LEAST 1 stage colder.
