Shredded tire

This must be what I get for working in Detroit. Started feeling a little funky on the freeway and this is what I found. Shitty camera phone pics.

About 19K on the car all together and those are the stock Lops.

Car looks really stupid with the doughnut on the rear.

yeah, happened to me earlier this year. Felt a little funny, but there was some ice/snow on the roads, so I didnt think anything about. Got to a road that was cleared, and about 5 minutes later all I saw was white smoke coming from the rear of the car. The tire wasn;t quite that bad, but I wore a hole right through the sidewall too. Luckily I was driving straigt and my rims seemed to stay on the tread (didnt have any damage to them).

I have some marks on the rims but it looks like scuffs from the rubber not scraped from the road. It felt a little off for about 10 miles before that but it started shaking violently and I figured it was time to pull over.

Saturn just rotated the tires last week so I assume they checked the pressure then.

Looks like I'll be putting the winter shoes on sooner rather than later.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me too. I had a very slow leak in one of the stock 'lops, and forgot about iy. I was in a hurry one day, and pulled down onto the i95 expressway, when I got down the exit ramp, i hit the gas to pull out onto the freeway, and the whole car spun out! I was very lucky that everyone got out of my way!

Yikes that's a weird looking blow out...you let your car sit for long periods of time, right? I wonder if that made the rubber deteriorate from any cracks that formed, or if you hit something to do that. I don't know if our roads can really tear the sidewall apart in multiple spots like that, but who knows, this is Michigan, anything can happen.

I've noticed on all of my stock 'Lops right now that there's visible cracking at the top corner of the sidewall/tread. Check your other tires to see if they have this. I would take a pic to show what I'm talking about, but I don't have a digi cam other than my phone, and that probably wouldn't show the details close enough on the tire.

I have 30,500 miles on my stock lops and they still look pretty good. Im getting ready to buy some new tires problably around Feb. of next year. Hopefully they will last until them.
