I need help from the Big dawgs here

Was up team??? I was wondering who would have the answer to my question here it goes.. I bought a 2006 ion redline ecu but for some reason when I put the ecu in the car it would only start all my electrical Stuff but no crank, I thought it was the ecu not readin the appropriate key but when I took it to a lock smith I was told we have no chip in our key and the car can be started with a simple copy and I was like that's not true. So he made a copy and shut my mouth because it did start with a regular copy , So what is causing it to not start and what would I have to do to make it possible Thanks Alan
