Dash reading service vehicle?

I tried to search but couldnt really find any answers, found something about a passlock but I dont know if thats what this is.

When I was driving home last night my car beeped at me 3 times and a light came on looks like a car with a lock on it, and the screen where the mileage reads was flashing service vehicle forever. so then I parked it when I got home, left for work this morning, seemed fine, no lights or anything, seemed to run ok and what not, then driving home from work again tonight it did the same exact thing, what is this, is this something that throws a code that I can see what it is or what? My car is a '04 and is no longer under warranty. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

it is due to a faulty passlock sensor (something with the ignition) i dunno how u should go upon fixing this, but i had the dealer take care of it for me while i'm still under warranty. i'd get it fixed by them or else sometimes your car won't start.

Call your local saturn dealer and ask for parts. Tell them you need the ignition switch it about $30 for the part. Do the relearn and your as good as gold. Did mine today and it was easy. I will find out for sure tomorrow morning if this ignition switch worked.

Just tell them exactly what you told us, they should know. The Passlock system is a universal car thing.

If they won't cover it under warranty, just say you want the ignition switch like SPLREDLINE said.

ok got that all fixed, dealer said it left a code in the memory or something, they couldnt get it to come up but when they scanned it or whatever it showed a code, so they replaced the switch with no charge. woohoo thank goodness, now I dont have to wake up any earlier than i have to to see if my car will start for work in the am. thanks guys!

^^if its a regular trouble code (dtc) you can go to any autozone and they will scan and clear it for you. for free.

They'll clear it, but just remember if you plan on taking it into a dealer to have it looked at, they can't pull it back up.
