1-2 shift then stall??

hey guys i took my car out tonite to show a buddy of mine how quick/slow it was and i went from a dead stop, lauched.....spun through first(as always) and then when i nailed second at about 6100rpm's shifting into second it just died completely.....totally shut off and had to restart. This isn't the first time its happened and i'm just wondering what its all about. It just really confuses me cuz i haven't found any kind of bullentins or anything. If it helps its about 20 degrees out and the engine was at operating temp before i beat on it. It doesn't have any codes or any lights and it runs fine after the re-start....just kinda confused on this.

You sure you are actually shifting at ~6100 [stock tach is VERY laggy in 1st when going hard on the throttle.. like 500rpms behind laggy]. If you smacked the limiter it can cause you to stall out [usually limp mode though.. but it's GM, let alone a Saturn so anything is possible]

well i've hit the limitter before and that was usually around 6200 on the tach. don't really know what the stock limitter is cuz of the laggy tach. but tonite and the times before it would does this problem when i didn't hit the limitter. Usually if i do hit it by accident it doesn't do anything but bounce....duh. this problem only seems to happen when i don't hit the limitter.

check your throttle body

mine was doing that at around 20k miles. took off the throttle body and lo and behold it was dirty from carbon buildup. it will mess up the maf too.

i just took some alcohol and brake cleaner and cleaned it off. haven't had any problem since. up to about 30k miles now

Yes, it's a Saturn. No, you can't drive it.

not sure what the bg induction service thing is.. elaborate?

doesn't take much to check the throttle, it's so easy to get to. right in front on the supercharger and 4 bolts later... its off

Same thing happened to me. It was a faulty throttle position sensor.
The dealer replaced it under warranty

i've read threads about leaky intakes and hoses connecting to your intake being loose, and bypassing the maf. check those too

The service from BG includes the air take cleaner that you just put inline with you intake tube( after the maf) and just hook about 5 psi of shop air to and just let the car eat it and it supposed to clean the TB, Intake mani, and the valves and combustion cambers. They also make just a TB cleaner that you would use if you could open the throttle with the car off. otherwise yes i would have to take off the TB to clean it. I may get around to it this weekend.....depends on weather.
