Hiss after wheel hop launch - causes?

Botched a launch a little bit ago on the way back from lunch... Hopped pretty hard this time and I noticed after that when I accelerate that I get a hiss somewhere from around the passenger side footwell area - but up in the engine bay... Pulled back into the parking garage and listened at idle and everything sounds completely normal - even when revving to above 4000 rpm. It is only when I am accelerating on the road that I get the noise it seems... it almost sounds like an exhause leak, but more of a whine... Could a hose be loose somewhere? vacuum line? exhaust leak from the hop? Thoughts?

Sure its not the driver's side? Intake piping maybe? No filter should increase the whine of the blower a little more. See if maybe it came off unless your running a stock intake still.

Everything engine related is still stock for now. Just had the timing chain parts replaced, but that def. isn't it. I did check the intake hose from the air box up to the throttle body and it seemed tight. I did a quick check of any visible hoses and they all seemed fine as well... I'm going to possibly go take it out again in a bit and see if I can pinpoint the noise with another person in the car to listen... I also did a quick check by listening while walking around the car at idle and revved in the parking garage and couldn't hear anything out of the ordinary... just seems to be at speed on the road...

Is the exhaust system stock? If not, could be that. You won't really hear and exhaust leak at idle if it isn't that bad. At WOT (wide open throttle) you will hear it though. Reach under the car while it is running and feel around all of the flanges to see if air is creeping out. Be careful not to touch the exhaust. HOT!!!

Just drove it around again. While sitting still everything sounds completely normal. Only on the road, while on the throttle, does it make the hissing/whine sound. I would think if it were something in the engine that it would do the same thing while sitting still, but it only does it when driving. Sounds like a possibly exhaust leak because I think the sound is coming from somewhere between the back of the engine down towards the end of the cat... All exhaust and everything else is completely stock for now...

You should use the search. I have the same thing going on its a bearing in your supercharger...need to either replace bearing if you were so inclined, or have it rebuilt.

damnit, I'm having the same problem. I need to buy some ceramic bearings. I was on a pretty good schedule about keeping them greesed, but I kinda fell off. O well, guess it's time.

I checked this weekend for any exhaust leaks - none to be found. There isn't any performance loss and no noticable driving differences. What are the symptoms of the bearings in the supercharger going out exactly? You can't hear the sound when you rev the engine and the car is sitting still, only when it is moving and under throttle load... My dad threw out the idea that it could be from a piece of the cat busting loose or something like that. I've never busted out a cat personally - is that even possible from hard wheel hop? I've listened and drove and had others listen and eveyone seems to think exhaust related problem so far... Saturn had my engine out last month to replace the timing chain, so I am wondering if something happened when they worked on it.. I've wheel hopped before and nothing broke loose, and now this... Could it be the cat maybe? Or are the bearings probably to blame?

Yah dude im almost positive. Same thing happened to me. Cant hear it too much when u rev in neutral but at low rpms in second when u give it gas its like a whizzing noise. Thats what saturn told me. First dealership said it was something trans related, but they couldnt do a tear down at their shop so i had to take it to another one which told me it was a bearing in the s/c. No performance loss felt either just an annoying ass noise. lemme know what the rebuild costs ya...i need to get that shit done just been puttin it off.
