SMS thorttle body *pics*

Okay, been getting throttle body codes but can anyone look at it and tell if its bad? (1) I know when a throttle body really goes bad it should affect performance and all but this thing still runs great when its not in limp mode every other start up(Just beat my buddies Evo9 last night so the performance is still up to par lol(car is so backwards when I baby it I get codes, when I beat it they go away(literally)!! )

(2) I know the paint on the inside of the SMS big bore has to be intact and if its not then it can cause it to act up and as u can see the paint has come off a little in the bottom area of the TB but idk if its enough to really cause problems. SMS says to just put some new nail polish on it and not to use any kind of throttle body/carb cleaner on it ever.

(3) Does everyone else's sit at that big of an angle when the car is off?? I know its supposed to be 20 percent but that looks like about 50%

looks kinda dirty that could be part of the problem..... what are you supposed to clean it with? could your meth kit be taking the paint off?

Isn't it adonized? Meaning the "paint" shouldn't come off. As far as cleaning it...well if they don't want you to use throttle body cleaner you could take it off and try water then let it air dry an hour. But technically you aren't supposed to use tb cleaner on cars with turbos or superchargers so we're already in the red on that count. I can't really tell if the angle is off with it still attached to the s/c.

I was looking at getting the sms big bore, so let me ask...is it worth it? Did you get any performance gains from your setup. Because of the throttle by wire people were saying it wasn't going to do anything at all...but I'm bored with my current setup. And if you're having problems then that complicates things.

The throttle body looks fine, just remove it, clean it out with some carb/tb cleaner and a toothbrush and throw it back on. If the problem persists it is more than likely the TB motor.

Codes would be the most helpful piece of information for this post.

I thought it was andonized also but they said to use nail polish...and honestly the guy had put everything on it at once w/the kit so I couldnt even tell you the performance gains of just the TB...

I thought maybe the meth woulda did it also but, when you look at it, it looks more or less like that was a area that the butterfly scraped it a bit...idk though and yea I was wondering how to clean it at first also.

The codes are P2101-Throttle Actuator Circuit Performance, P2135-AAP Sensor 1 & 2 Voltage Fault, P1681-ECM program does not recognize the vehicles ID...and I gotta P0101(Mass Air Flow Sensor Performance ECM) the other day. So far I've yet to see someone post that the throttle body codes make there car go into limp mode? I think everything is more or less PCM related.

looked at it again does look like a scrape from the butterfly you think that could be the issue?

The thing is when the car WARMS up, it runs great....when I run it, it runs great BUT in the mornings when the engine isnt completely warmed up I'll try to take off and it will go into power reduced mode(not the typical, "running on 2 cylinders" limp mode). Kills boost completely and runs like the timing was pulled back crazy like. Rev'ing the hell out of it every morning before i take off to work would cause alot of disturbance but it works sometimes. Im guessing im the only redline to come across this type of problem.

I also just thought maybe the meth coulda been causing that paint but I just realized if it cant even take the dirt off the throttle body, it probably cant take the paint off of it haha.

I dont know what to do, already spent money for someone to tune it...Guess im alone on this one, ill let everyone know what fixes it whenever it gets fixed.

Yeah "P1681-ECM program does not recognize the vehicles ID"...doesn't make sense that the TB or Meth would register this code. I would say the issues with the rough starts during warm weather may have something to do with the meth.

You can try cleaning the s/c and tb with the cleaner but that's only going to smooth out your idle. From what I remember of the stock tb the butterfly lips to almost flush with the end of the throttle body. So if your butterfly actually lips past the tb into the sc then there's a problem.

Are you running the intense kit by any chance? If so...I'm thinking THAT's your problem. There seems to be some sort of consensus that the intense "tune" and/or abilities to tune are not good.

Another possible helper I can think of is to run your car richer with an MAF translator but it's more or less a pcm problem so you're still going to get codes it may just run better during the day.

And finally...I don't think you can draw limp mode with a TB issue but I don't know. The ways I've done it: exhaust/cat codes; excessive redlining; unplugging a critical sensor.

The paint issue: I'm guessing you're saying it's painted and not adonized or powder coated...if that's the case...um...the last thing that I'd want is to have paint chips floating around in the supercharger (that's reserved for metal blower shavings ) (shakes head) They charge you 200 bucks for the work then tell you to put nail polish on it?!? I didn't realize APC was doing throttle body work.

Looks bad. Take it off the car spray some carb cleaner on a clean rage and wipe down. You may have to repeat this several times before you notice it is free of buildup. I have seen tecks doing it this way. You will notice that the butterfly will move more freely. Enjoy
