Anyone familiar with a Ford Taurus?

My sister has an '01 and last week noticed the radiator was empty and the car was overheating. Filled it up and a few days later it was smoking like crazy and dumping anti freeze on the ground. Took it to ford and they told her the head gasket was gone and becuase of that car having 2 and because of where it's located that they have to replace the spark plugs blah blah and it's $1800....

Thoughts?

Thanks....

im actually surprised they did not say the engine needed to be replaced if a few miles had been put on the car after the discover of the head gaskets. you have to consider if the car overheated and blew the head gaskets that there may be a chance of having a warped head,,i think being its an 01 i would look for another car unless you really like that car. but at todays rates 1800 seems about right

it has never been the problem with the high performance car,,its always been the issue of placing that car into the hands of a low performance driver

Ford taurus is the WORST car ford ever built. I think they were all built on mondays & fridays. Tell her to upgrade to the festiva.

id have to agree... with 1800 your sister could get a much more reliable car... like a small civic or something. i once had a Ford Tempo which is just as bad as a taurus... and i regretted ever having it... they can be a big pain... especcially because its a FWD 90 degree V6 they would have to pull off the motor mounts and rotate the motor forwrd.... just a crap load of labor. so i believe the 1800 is right from the dealer... but also try asking around at a few local mom and pop shops... it should come out a bit cheaper

I'd spend the money and get it done. With replacing the gasket comes machining of the head and/or block to ensure a proper fit. If you're looking to spend the $1800 to buy a 1989 Civic that will no doubt give you less comfort and more headaches later on just from being old, then by all means go ahead.
