ABS engaging when braking.

When I come almost to a stop and am barely even touching the brakes the ABS starts going. If I hit the brakes hard it doesnt do it. It is only when I am almost fully stopped it engages.

I just got a wheal bearing put on, the mechanic said that it was just the bad wheel bearing due to there being a gap or air or something making the ABS sensor work improperly. But I still have the same problem even with the new wheel bearing and sensor (as the come togethor). Has anyone experienced this problem? or know how to fix it.

mine has done that a few times, i just ignore it, if i need to stop in a hurry the abs still works fine.

Yeah it does it every time though, I may just have to take it back to the garage and get them to check everything out again.

That is definitely not acting correctly. My RL only engages ABS when it should, slippery conditions. That does not sound safe to me.

It does not create anything unsafe, it is just annoying and is probably leading to a bigger problem. So I want to catch it now before it gets worse.

Its a bad wheel speed sensor (located in one of the four wheel bearings) Your dealer can graph the four wheel speeds using the Tech2 tool to diagnose which sensor is showing lock at slow speeds.

that happened to me when i had a 99 grand am, the abs would activate itself when i was making a regular stop. then sometimes the abs light would come on right after and i'd lose it completly. turned out to be a bad hub/bearing assembly(which is extremely common on those n-body cars)

just be careful though to give yourself a few extra feet, the abs pulsates the pads instead of holding them steady like normal so sometimes it *may* take a bit longer to stop
