well I left the key in it all night and drove it to the Saturn dealership. That dealership was so goddamn nice about the whole thing. They will be fixing that, the Cruise control (which didnt even work when I bought it) and some nagging issues I was having with my XM. It's weird going from an un-airconditioned dealership where they could give less of a shit to a dealership that gave me coffee and drove me to pick up my free 09 Malibu rental. Word. I'll update once it's fixed, but Jimmy the Mechanic is pretty sure they are going to have to replace the whole ignition system. He also confirmed that my RL is a mutant and is lacking the magic button, lol. That E-how site is bad ass, thank you Hawlyns!

Well I got her back.

They replaced the Starter/Ignition system. Cut me a new key (which is awesome considering I had Mangeled the other one.) and washed the car.
They also reflashed the car and it fixed the cruise control issue. The cruise issue was mostly user error so yeah....

Anyways, god bless the Warrenty..and gotta love an organized car dealership!
Thank you all for your suggestions. Now to turn in this Piece of shit Malibu loaner car...

tell me about your cruise control issue- I have a problem where the cruise control will not engage. The CC turns on, I get a power light on the on/off button, but setting a speed does nothing. It has not happened lately though. Was this the same symptoms you were having ?

Yes, this was the EXACT same problem I was having. The yellow CC light on the stearing wheel would turn on but the actual cruise control wouldnt engage. The dealership just reflashed the computer and they gave me a quick briefing on how to use the RL's cruise control and for the first time, it fucking worked! (you'll actually see "cruise" on the screen) Hit your button, get up to speed, and before you engage it get your foot completely away from the clutch pedal. If there is any pressure on it at all, even a foot leaning against it, then it wont engage. If this doesnt work for you have your dealer check it out and possibly perform the re-flash.

I see this as a common problem not only on our cars, but on various other ones. I just have to ask, who taught you how to drive manual? Not to be a jerk but you should never, ever [other than say racing] rest your foot on the pedal. I know our car doesn't have a 'dead pedal', but just put your foot on the floor off to the side. I have never understood why people drive with their foot resting on the clutch pedal and then they are the ones whose clutches burn out first too.. go figure.

I had a problem with CC that required the dealer to adjust "something under the dash". They talked about having to pull a bunch of stuff apart to get to it. That made me think it was not the switch on the clutch or brake. I know someone on here had their clutch switch mis-adjusted. They fixed the problem by adjusting the switch. There maybe a how to on it.

There are some testy members here. Maybe I should've had you come teach me how to drive my own car? I do value you suggestion though and actually drive the car while keeping my foot where the dead pedal should be. But if your foot is touching or remotely making any contact with the clutch then the CC will not engage. I have a habit of getting up to speed, shifting into 5th, then engaging the cruise. Driving 90 minutes too and from work 4 days a week you really find yourself looking forward to putting your car into CC and relaxing. Even if i was missing that leg I still wouldnt have been able to get it to engage due to the malfunction with the CC. Once the computer was reflashed I was given that suggestion, and it helped!
