YAY! My RL Ate my F#@$ Key....

So I'm jumping a friends car for him (haha, silly honda) and I notice something about my RL 5 minutes later. I cannot turn the car OFF> The fucking key is stuck in the ignition. I wiggle it, i jiggle it. Nothing. I'm just sitting in my driveway with my car idling. Have no fear! The owners manual has a solution to this. Apparently you pull the plate off beneath your stearing column and stick your finger in it, press a plunger, and PRESTO your key comes out. Well I just did this. There is no "plunger," or button of any king. There are wires, sharp things, dead things, and grease. No button. I took apart the whole stearing column and still cannot find anything to release this evil key. So I let her stall out (no sense in wasting gas) and am taking a beer break. I'd appreciate if anyone had any suggestions on how to fix this. Am I missing something? I realllllllllllllllllllly dont want to do to the dealership. Yes I know it's warrentied but you know what i mean. Any suggestions would rock. Thanks folks.

I could be wrong, but is the manual talking about the hole at the bottom of the wheel where it is the size of a finger...Not sure if there's something up there but I know it's there on mine. Maybe that's what it's talking about, can't remember if there's one or two, but for sure there is one...

I've pulled off the whole column and can see nothing to to push button/lever wise. How deep is this button located in the column? Holy shit is this frustrating, lol. Such a stupid thing to have happen. From what i've read it's a common thing. Great.

In my year of being on this forum, I've never heard of this happening. It's not common by a long shot.

Try turning the steering wheel and turning the key? Maybe it's wheel locked or something.

Tried your suggestion too. It's common, just apparently not on this forum. If you google "Ignition issues with a Saturn Ion," or "Key stuck in my Saturn's ignition." you'd be suprised of all the hits with my very same issue. It appears to plague regular ION's more than RL's, but it does happen. It happened to my sister white ugly Ion. But instead of offering me the solution hers was just a locked up stearing wheel (ggrrrrrr). I've given up for tonight. I'm going to hit the dealership tomorrow. I'll have them fix the cruise control while i'm at it. Jesus I hate dealerships. Well thank you for the advice folks. This mystery key release button from the owners manual is still just blowing my fucking mind.

My old Ion QC3 did this to me when the security system detected a threat, for whatever stupid reason, and wouldn't let me start the car, use any electric anything, or remove the key.

It had to be towed on a flatbed to the dealer where they fixed it.

It was really cool though, the tow truck guy came and tried to hook up his starter pack and the car wouldn't even acknowledge anything. The guy thought he went crazy. Good stuff.
