Busted pulley

can anyone tell me how to get to the pulley just above and slightly right of the crank pulley? it somehow came loose and now my serpentine is all chewed up. it looks like you have to remove the motor mount just to see it?

the idler pulley? i'm with watt, never heard of this one coming loose.

if it did come loose, be prepared to support the engine from underneath and take out the pass side motor mount, as that's about the only way to get to it.

I was kinda hoping there was a simpler way to fix this, but thanks for the info. BTW where's the best place to support it?

try going through the passenger side fender well. support the engine with a block of wood and a jack under the oil pan.

turns out the aluminum bracket holding the pulley is broken. Looks like the only way to get the part out is down past the crank pulley. Can anyone tell me the trick to getting that one off (the crank pulley)?

dude, i just had mine off a few weeks ago during my rebuild. support the motor from underneath, then take belt off, then the motor mount off. it will come off completely and won't be in the way. the bolts holding the idler bracket on are all accessible from the top IIRC and you can pull the assembly up through the engine bay.

it's actually quite easy to do, and won't take much time. it's way easier doing it this way. i could probably get it done in less than an hour. you shouldn't have to even worry about the crank pulley

Thanks

thanks to all for the assistance! turns out the mechanic who did my head gasket repair left out one of the two bolts holding the pulley in place which is what caused it to break. they are going to be doing the repair for free, duh! but thanks again!
