NEED HELP, car completely shut down!!

So I bring the car home last night and it is running perfectly, no problems or signs at all. Come back out after like 3 hours, unlock the car with the keyless entry just fine, get in, turn the key, car starts just like normal.... runs for approx. 1 second, then shuts off, along with every single light in the cabin. The only thing working is the passlock light, which flickers, and the key-in warning bell, which i can tell is struggling to work as well. Tried to start the car about ten times after that and each time I get absolutely no crank what so ever, just a small flicker from the stereo lights that come on with auxiliary power. Now, there is not even a flicker, the cabin lights werent working but the only light working after trying to start the car again was the trunk light? Then that eventually went dim and died. Not sure if this is a combination of dead battery AND ignition switch failure orrrrrr..... I need some help please, any help will be greatly appreciated

I'd go have the battery tested as a start, check your ground as well.

Yeah I was gonna go do that as soon as possible. But if you're talking about the main ground in the trunk right next to the battery I did check that and it was secure. I just don't get why the car would start up perfectly and just shut off so abruptly if it were just a battery issue.

could very well be a more complex problem, but I'd start with the easy stuff and eliminate them from the equation first.

Yeah I'll just try new battery and ignition switch tomorrow and report back asap if that doesn't work.

Possibly your alternator is going bad as well especially if the car was running and then died. But I second the check your battery first.

Autozone does free battery and alternator testing. Did u try pop starting it?

Yep went to advance today they tested the battery, it had a bad cell. I'm thinking it could have been caused by a defective ignition switch, so I got both and I'll put those both in tomorrow and give an update

Alright I put the new switch and battery in today, performed GC's passlock relearn, and all is well. Im guessing the dead battery could have been cause by the bad ignition switch? either way, car's fixed, thanks for the input everyone.
