MAP Sensor Qs

I was just wondering how this sensor can get dirty? Is is because the car was running rich for a while, do i still have a vacuum leak?

I'm looking at replacing both the supercharger and intake manifold gaskets over the winter, but i didnt think that the MAP sensor should really ever get dirty.

I am having some problems myself, but dirt can get stuck on it. I have had codes come up that point to that sensor and I sprayed it with some MAP sensor cleaner. pull it out and look to see if there is black gunk on it.

i thought that the area it is in is supposed to be sealed, just wondering how you can actually get build-up there

I think it is just carbon build up after time.Just like how the intake manifold gets dirty and you have to clean it. I think the types of filters that woulld keep everything out would restict air flow too much.

The MAP sensor sits inside the intake manifold. Any dirt that gets in there (like if you don't clean or change your air filter often) and any (normal) oil blowby from the PCV or excess oil on a K&N filter could contribute to contamination.

Yah mine was horribly covered in almost snot, like a combo of condensation, and carbon. Boy did it run like a turd burner. That I assume was the first time it been cleaned since new, so around 40k were on it.

The coating from the SC rotors will also wear off and collect on the Map sensor.

hmm maybe ill check the rotors when i replace the gaskets this winter

anyone know the part numbers for the SC gasket and the IM gasket? (i know i can look them up, just being lazy)

You can always just go with a phenolic spacer while you already have the intake manifold off. It helped drop my IAT2 nicely. Besides me losing my o ring for the MAP sensor install wasn't too bad. Probably my best cooling mod. ZZP sells them for like 100 bux.
