Unhappy Pcm??

So... I took my car in today for the cold start/hesitation problem. After sitting around for an hour, they service lady came out and told me they need to replace my PCM and that they ordered it and would be ready tomorrow. I wasn't really sure what to say... so i'm going back in on Thursday to have it replaced. So I guess I have two questions... how much does a PCM for our car cost and why would the pretty much standard cold start problem need for the PCM to be replaced?? And as a last question... is the PCM part of the ECU or is the whole ECU being replaced??

The correct term Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is sometimes called an ECU (Electronic or Engine Control Unit). If they have diagnosed a DTC or some other diagnostic chart to a possible hardware fault- they would put in a PCM, but it just may be that they felt they had exhausted the other "normal" avenues and are hoping a new box might resolve your problem- could be a "dart throw" but hey- it's fixed the occasional "weird one" in the past.
The good thing is YOU get to the the judge.

Well... i'm not sure its the most cost effective way to fix my car... but if it works and its under warranty... then I don't really care how they fix it. As long as its done in a reasonable amount of time and works well afterwards.

Just a side note to this... I took my car in this morning to have the PCM replaced and the nice lady walked me across the street to the place they do rentals with and the guy put me in an awesome four door civic. I couldn't have been more excited. Now I know why everyone has one... can't wait to get one and pimp it like the rest of the world. sarcasm.end

No, the only "performance" upgrade this one had was a broken gas pedal... atleast I think it was broken... cause I was pushing that SOB and the car was barely moving, hahaha. Damn civics. They better have my RL done quickly.

It was just a joke on the lack of power for that four door civic... not an actual problem. And Saturn just called and said my car was finished. So I will go pick it up very soon and let you guys know how it feels with a brand new computer.
