Seems like the Passlock ignition sensor..... Known issue with all IONs. Since the MIL is being set (service vehicle soon) the dealer (or parts store) should be able to see what the Diag Trouble Code is.. DO NOT CLEAR THE CODE untill you have had your dealer look at.

I didn't pay 24k; I put 8k down and financed the rest first off. Second off, I had to take delivery before august 1st which meant I had to take a car off the lot. On the lot they had a)barebones redline that the manager was driving that had marks all over the door (ie demo) and b)the fully loaded floor model.

I walked into the dealership to buy an ION 1 manual because it was cheap. They had nothing in stock except quadcoupes and vues and a used redline with 8k miles on it (ding ding ding) for 16k it didn't make sense to buy that when I could get a new one for 18k; but the loaded one totalled out to about 23.5 with tax.

By the way...when your cars fucking explode I'll be laughing MY ass off. If you think saturn should get a pass on quality because the redline is fast or cheap; no. If you want to do the statistical analysis of the probability of two models in the same area with the same dealership with a limited release of 5,000 units per year having the same kind of problems with low mileage you know what you'll get? LEMON.

If you want to loan me your flat bed tow truck, I'll stick it up on there and that's about the only way this car will ever be reliable.

It's not like this is a 1 day turnaround job;this is the second time they've had to "order parts" to fix the damn thing...I would figure that a clutch, flywheel and starter would be parts that they'd have lying around. Hey, if this is upto 1500 in repairs in 5k miles; if saturn wants to pay for it then I guess then can sell all the RLs they want. I suppose by the end of 2k6 this car (if I still have it) will have bought itself with the amount of money it will cost under warranty to fix...

Listen...do you understand the difference between tiny problem and major problem?

Tiny Problem: The car has leaks on teh inside of the rear doors when it rains. The xm radio loses signal sometimes, the knob top pops off sometimes.

Major problem: Car has clutch problems at 2.5k miles; Car has electrical problems at 5k miles.

A major problem means you can't drive your car (you know a car is meant to be driven not just sit in your fucking driveway waiting for the tow truck guy to come). No car should have MAJOR MECHANICAL PROBLEMS at this stage. If you don't agree then you are fucking stupid.

Do everyone here a favor and get rid of your car. Your car is fucked and from what I've known if you, you got what you deserved. For you to go to unrelated posts and talk shit about the car is just uncalled for. We didn't build the damn car. Why don't you talk to Saturn and be a little whiney bitch to them and see how far that gets you. I understand that your frustrated but you're going way too far now.

Man........you guys. I don't know why Death is gettin bashed here. First off, it's a good thing when people post up problems on here as it gives us a heads up on things we need to watch out for. Second, he's probably coming off as "whiney" to some because he's understandably frustrated. You pay good money for a car, you expect it to at least hold up it's end of the bargain and be a reliable form of transportation. I know that I've ranted on other forums (when I owned different cars) when I was frustrated and the members were supportive and tried to help me work through everything. The RL is not a very popular car right now so why would we want to try to drive exsisting members away? Hey Death, my RL now has 1,3XX mi. (bought with 170 mi) and so far my probs have been 1) shift knob fell off 2) excessive outer front tire wear 3) clunk noise in steering column 4) rear window molding loose 5) one no start issue 6) clutch started to feel funny last night. I'm not anywhere close to giving up on the car, I love it too much but it does seem that there are more problems with this than any newer vehicle I've owned. I'm going into the dealership for the first time in a week and hopefully they can get everything back to where it should be. I'd hate to see you give up, but I do understand that a car that doesn't do it's job isn't worth a damn. Good luck with whatever happens.

Just to clarify , when you say an engine "cranks" THAT means it is turning over. So it sounds like your car is a "NO CRANK" condition. Certainly it COULD be the starter, but I (like Mailmars) am suspicious of the status of the theft deterrant system, it could need an ignition switch. Was the the littlle PADLOCK symbol illuminated on your dash?

They are working on an issue where either a heavy key chain is causing a mislignment in the Passlock mechanism within the ignition switch.
Apparently this can also happen if you use a neck tether or lanyard on your keys (like so many people these days for whatever reason) and what happens is they either are fiddling/yanking on it while they drive, resting their foot in it in cruise, or just accidentally pulling on it with their knees during cornering. There will likely be a bulletin and a fix for this soon.

Well sorry to hear about your troubles, and hope you're back on the road soon.
