that's the impression i was under. i've only gotten one or two (maybe three) tickets in the past three years.

most of my recklessness was before i turned 18, the rest are all piddly minor violations.

hell, it was more than a year ago when the DMV sent me a letter saying they "might" take away my liscence for being a habitual offender, and that's where your whole record comes into play (something over 5 years i'm sure).

i just think it's BS that they do this now, i've renewed twice since my last ticket, and they finally decide that now's the time to deny me coverage?

i think it might just have something to do with the hurricanes. a friend just had his insurance at work double for a couple months, to go down a small amount after that. he basically received a 25% increase on insurance costs (health). that's huge. they're paying out so much, and maybe decided they don't want my risks anymore.

i've talked to my old agent though, and he assures me that when i get insurance through other companies, they'll look at the last 3 years alone. thanks be to the lord for that one...

i'll let you guys know how it pans out. i'm going to set up an appointment with him after i get my whole record from the DMV...

Yeah, I'm with Tlake... I'm putting out $319.xx a month for insurance and $365 for the car payment. It sucks... i'm deff looking into new insurance companies after seeing some of the prices you guys are getting. Either that or just sucking it up til I grow up a bit, haha. So 20 years old with two accidents, one my fault (according to the fuzz... bastards) and one deff not my fault. So i'm hoping that over the next few years it goes down, especially after that first accident goes off my record.

hahaha, no, I don't work for them.

But State Farm has been very good to me and my family over the years. I was in an accident years ago. Not my fault at all. A van in front of me rear ended another car, throwing it across the road, and nevre hit her brakes. Well, this van had come to a dead stop, and I hit the back of it. Got a tickeyt for following too close, and fought it in court, and won. But, two years later, the people in the car tried to sue me, saying I hit the van and made it hit them. Yeah, an 89 ford ranger hit a Full size Dodge Coversion Ram van and knocked it so hard into another vehicle that it went three feet in the air and across the road.

I went to State Farm, and they gave me a Lawyer, and he handled things for me extremeley well. had depositions at his office and made the plantiffs look just dumb. They were forced to drop the suit against me as they had absoloutely no valid claim against me. This lawyer is a very good lawyer and i have consulted with him since on other matters. butm they saw me through and made sure i had the best possible. they have helped me whenever I have had need. My agent here in ga is great.

I still think it sucks that we pay so much though, and how they base what you pay.

BTW you must work for state farm or else no someone who does. I have never heard of someone being so sympathetic for a car insurance company!

lol yeah, good to hear everything worked out for you. They did take care of my for a while after the accident with compensation for missed work and payed for all my ambulance rides and hospital bills. but I just think its "silly" that they dropped me and forced me to get my own policy and remove my ability to drive the family car. but that being said its perfectly ok for me to go out and drive some strangers car but not my other fathers or mothers vehicle.

Not true at all... They use your driving record, credit score, claims on other policies (ie homeowner/renter) all of that comes into play. They score almost every aspect of your life. Why do you think it takes them 2-4 weeks to underwrite the policy? The agent issues a binder and then the underwriter issues the policy after checking you out. Although your driving record might come clean in the state database, CLUE has it forever, with the emphasis on your loss history. When you sign with a standard/premium company, they know more about you than your mother....

350 / year

Damn, and I was pissed when my insurance company said $350 / year for the Redline. You guys are NUTS to pay that for insurance. If I were in that situation, I'd be driving a rusted old piece of crap with only liability on it. No way would I throw away the kind of money you guys are paying.

I'm guessing its just AGE and accidents/tickets that make my insurance so high, but compared to people I know, i'm not doing that bad. My friend has no accidents and 2-3 minor speeding tickets and is putting up $375 a month for a jetta. Another friend, few tickets and a accident was paying $350 for a integra... 1.8 liter, non-VTEC, many years old. So it just goes to show that age is a huge factor in my neck of the woods. Hopefully after the end of this 6 month period it'll get lowered cause I turn 21 during the next 6 months period. We'll see. If not... i'll be switching.
