Weapon R Intake Concerns

Now that I have installed my Weapon-R intake, I have a concern about it in car washes. I always hand wash my car in the summer, but during the winter I will have to go to a car wash.

My fear is the the under body spray from the wash will soak the filter which hangs low in the engine bay. That could then cause hydro lock or other problems.

Can those of you with a Weapon-R intake or anyone with knowledge about this help me out.

I can't take my car through a car wash with the jet-blown dryers. Did so once...my LOW spoiler vibrated like mad.

But I have access to a hangar which stores two large corporate jets. It's heated and all that. Perfect for winter washes

I'm in the same boat, though. I wonder how my car would handle a TERRIBLE downpour/ car wash.

i was wondering about the homemade intakes also on that issue and the other short rams that leave it out there in the bay. Guess that is an issue with all exposed filters though...


and i see that one with a homemade intake has addressed the issue.

unless submerged, you won't do anything, there is that support underneath as well to block the spray. i'm not sure with a foam filter though...

I was thinking that too, but that support isnt that big. I thought about making my own little shield to block water but if a lot of water wont get to the filter as is i wont bother w/ it

I have no fears at all about water and the filter. I think you would have to drive through some pretty deep water for it to get real wet. I dont even think any water would splash to that area, unless its a large/ deep puddle. I am not sure though. I am gonna keep an eye on mine. As a matter of fact I am gonna go check it right now since its raining and I have driven through a few puddle allready today.

I just checked mine and it was completly dry. You are worried about the car wash though. The underbody wash would probably drench it. I stick to the quarter wash in the winter

I just checked mine as well after driving in the rain and it is perfectly dry. The high pressure from the wash would probably get it wet so i guess it will be the quarter washes for me too. Or maybe a car wash that doesnt do underbody spray.

again, you would have to submerge the filter and force it to suck up water. it's going to take air in first, water second. if it can draw air in, it won't draw in water. though foam filters don't filter as well, so they might allow water to pass through. the only way to know for sure would be to perform an independent test to somehow measure the amount of moisture getting into the intake stream post-filter.

i wouldn't worry about it, winter is when you really want the underbody flush anyways, and you'd have to sit in the same position directly above the spray of water to really soak the filter enough. to avoid it, just go faster for the front 1/4 of the car

I had a weapon R intake on my Cavy. It was a warm air intake, but I never had to worry about it at all. Like they said above, it really has to be quite submerged to start getting water in there
