B&M short shifter problems and complaints.

I just installed my B&M Short shifter in my 2004 RL. Install was a pain, instructions seriously needs tweaking, and those pictures barely help.

My issues with the short shifter...

I need to pull up the reverse lockout to get into 5th gear, if I don't slightly pull up on it. It won't go in..

To reverse I need to untighten the shift knob because the shift knob sits way low and the reverse lockout can't go up all the way.

Anyone have these issues? I'm definitely not happy with this, I didn't pay $150 to have a more annoying problem then what I started out with. I bought the shifter to solve my shift knob popping off blues. But now, it's more annoying have to take off the shifter to get into reverse.

Spooner, Max-boost, clownhair anyone with the shifter want to chime in please...

Nothing like you're describing.... I've heard of one or two other people with the reverse lockout issues, but mine has none.

I know why it won't go in while trying to engage in 5th gear. The piece of plastic above the pivot ball held on by 4 torx screws is too slightly too high and the shifter is hitting it before it can get into 5th. If you pull up the reverse lockout to get it in, it's fine. But that's still alittle annoying..

The reverse thing is ridicious.. I have to untighten the shift knob to get into reverse because the shift knob is hitting the reverse lockout and not letting it fully extend.

I will be test fitting my razo 340gram shift knob on there tommorow so hopefully that will solve that issue.

This is seriously wack, I will be emailing B&M Tech support tommorow and bitching.

Oh BTW sp00n man, sorry about the SCdyne thing.

I was thinking that since the B&M was designed on a 2005 RL.

I drive a 04 RL, maybe the plastic piece is alittle bit different. Maybe the 05 piece sits alittle lower.

I had my install done by a performance shop in town and at first I had problems with the reverse thing but after taking it back the problem is solved. You do have to put a little more oump when when you pull the reverse collar up as opposed to the easy smooth motion when in stock.

The only problem I have with mine is that the gets stuck when I pull I put the car into reverse. My shifter boot has been torn many times. I dont have any problems engaging any gears though. The reverse lockout collar has had the plastic worn away a little because it is a tight fit but over time it has worked smoother. I hope this makes some sense. I will post pics of what I mean in a few

You can kinda see the light spot where the plastic has been worn away some. Everything works really good though

maybe you should re-install and try to align everything better. don't you have to make sure the cable is in JUST the right spot compared to stock?

Thanks for the help guys..

It seems that me and a few others are the only one's with this problem. I know exactly how to fix the issues. I was just wondering if anyone else has these problems.

It's just a pain, the install was a pain, and now perfecting it is going to be a pain.

I just feel like I shouldn't have to modify something that should of just worked to begin with.

I have double and triple checked my install and it's perfect.

It's just the product that is not fitting correctly.

Other then the two fitment issues, the car drives great from 1st to 4th. Firmed up quite a bit, I like it. I hated how the stock shifter is mushy and unprecise, it was definitely not the worst of what i've driven stock.
